Windows 10: How do I access my work account with 2 step authentication when authentication app does not...

I have followed the support documentation to the letter, but am now stuck in a very tight loop trying to access my work account. I can access my Microsoft Outlook account fine using the authetication app, but the app will not accept me adding my work account, as it keeps telling me to enter a 2 digit code. There is nowhere to enter any 2 digit code. On my outlook account, authentication gives me 3 two digit numbers and all i have to do is select the right one. Every way I try to access my work account, which has my Office365 subscription, I am blocked by the stupid request to enter a 2 dig

I have enabled 2-step authentication on my Microsoft account.
I'm trying now to create/use an application password on my WP8 but it doesn't work, the application is failling to authenticate with the generated password.
Has anyone successfully used an app password?

2 step-authentication with app password not working

Just to be clear, after enabling 2-step authentication on my account, Chronos Calendar was unable to sync (which was expected). I went to the web page to create an app password, did a copy of the code, went back to Chronos Calendar, paste the code in
the password field. But I got the error that I can't get authenticated. I tried several times, removing the password, creating a new one, enter it manually or by copy/paste: same problem. So I removed the 2-step authentication and everything is now back to
normal.

 

Microsoft Account authentication

After more research, I have found my answer. It looks like the issue was that Microsoft released a new Microsoft Authenticator app with the features first introduced in Microsoft Authenticator Beta. The new app received a prompt to approve access to my Microsoft
Account when signing on from a new PC, though I find it strange that the beta app wasn't directly upgraded to the new version of the app.

Microsoft now has three 2 step authentication apps available in the store for Windows 10 Mobile:

• Authenticator - original app from Windows Phone 8
• Microsoft Authenticator Beta - originally released to Windows 10 users when Windows 10 Mobile was only available on the Windows Insider program.
• Microsoft Authenticator - the official Windows 10 app no longer in beta
