    Hi Microsoft Support,I own an old computer which runs Windows 10 Pro. I have both the 25 character product key and have linked it to my Microsoft account. The computer is very old and no longer works properly so I intend to get rid of it. I have checked and it definitely has a retail licence of Windows which has transfer rights.I recently built a new computer which I has Windows 11 Home, and would like to transfer my product key/digital licence from the old one to it. I have tried entering the product key, but get an error message saying that it does not work, with error code 0xc004f050. I und

    Windows 8.1 pro + WMC key activation

    This worked for me last time with a Win 8 key.

    Install Windows 8.1 and enter KMS key during setup. Once in windows change product key to my Windows 8 key. Go to add features and enter my WMC add-on key. Drink a beer to a job well done.

    Thanks but I don't want to do any decrypting. I want to download a Win 10 ISO from Microsoft and install it using my Win 8 key. No other steps required. Is that possible?

    Windows 8.1 pro + WMC key activation

    So it will be fine installing 8.1 pro with a KMS key, then switch to my 8 pro key and it will activate ok?

    Maybe a daft question but why can't you just install 8.1 pro with the 8 pro key, or is it different keys for 8 and 8.1? seems silly when 8.1 is a free update anyway.
