How do I add a Phone Link shortcut to my task bar or desktop? After I open it and close it it disappears. I want the shortcut to always stay on my task bar or desktop. Thx.

Links shortcuts on task bar opening .lnk instead of the file directly.

Since the last Windows update, any shortcuts I have in my Links toolbar on the task bar that aren't folders now pop up a Security Warning prompt as it tries to open the .lnk version of the shortcut.

The shortcuts are located in C>User>(name)>Favourites>Favourites Bar.

This was working fine before the last update, where clicking on any shortcut or file would open it directly as if I clicked on a shortcut, but now it always asks me if I want to open this file which is starting to defeat the whole point of having the shortcut (To reduce clicks and give quicker access)

Desktop shortcuts still open fine, it just seems to be in this links toolbar.

Anything I can find online is from 2 years ago and they say to delete a folder in regedit as follows:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER

1. Software
   
2. Microsoft
   
3. Windows
   
4. Explorer
   
5. FileExts
   
6. .INK
   
7. User Choice (delete this folder)
   

But I do not have the User Choice folder.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it? I've tried deleting and creating a new shortcut but the same problem occurs.

 

Desktop Shortcut Icons

Hi Mik-Dav,

The desktop shortcut created for a specific website should bear the website's actual logo. With what you've experienced, there could be something wrong with how the shortcut was created.

If you've created the shortcut by selecting Create shortcut, then we suggest that you try the other way, that is by dragging the website icon that appears in the address bar to your desktop. Follow these steps:

• Using Internet Explorer, access a website.
• Once the website opens, you will see its icon in the address bar.
• Click and drag the icon on your desktop.

The website shortcut bearing its actual logo should now be saved on your desktop.

Desktop Shortcut Icons

I tried using Edge that comes with the computer and I can see the logo you are talking about. When I try to drag it to the desktop you can see that I have it but as soon as I drop it the window opens rather than putting the shortcut icon on the desktop.
