  1. How do I add things that aren't apps to the start menu on Win 10?

I've just upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 and I used to have the start menu pinned with shortcuts to things I used frequently. Like a shortcut straight to the "change when PC sleeps" setting and a shortcut to the Windows update checker but I can't seem to pin anything but apps in the start menu.

The native apps from the system are all showing this strange square instead of the normal icons. Please help resolve this problem. Thanks

How do I add things that aren't apps to the start menu on Win 10?

In Win 10 some apps are not listed in the Start Menu

Two of my most used programs are listed in the uninstall programs list, but do not appear in All Apps in the Start Menu, nor do they appear in the Most Used list in the Start Menu. Any suggestion how I can add them to my Start Menu, other than with tiles,
    which I do not use?
