    How do I backup and restore apps to a fresh Windows installation?


    I'm experiencing a really annoying issue that will force me to format my SSD and install a fresh version of Windows 10. I have many apps & games installed and I really don't want to manually reinstall everything, so is there a way to backup apps & their data then restore them to the new Windows installation? I am aware of such tools on Mac (Carbon Copy Cloner, DiskDrill) but not on Windows.

    Any help is appreciated!

    installing windows 10 backup and restore later


    1. Backup Vista
    2. Upgrade Vista->Windows 7 -> Windows 10. Get activated.
    3. Backup Windows 10.
    4. Clean Install Windows 10. Make sure still activated
    5. Backup a fresh copy of Windows 10
    6. Restore

    To perform step 4 i will need to have downloaded an iso and create a dvd or usb to boot from.....so will not this ISO be ok and the one you mention ?

    Restore disk image to a fresh Windows 10 installation

    What I'd like to do is:-


    1. Make a system image backup to an external HDD.
    2. Re-format drive C
    3. Re-install Windows 10 from scratch
    4. Restore all my apps and files (not many files as I keep almost all data on a separate partition.

    Am I expecting the impossible and would the restore try to put the O/S exactly where it was before? The previous installation seems to reside in an unusual partition which I discovered when I tried to rescue windows 10 installation without loosing data and apps. This is the installation screen where I wanted to choose:-

    As one can see, it tells me the current version of Windows is in an unsupported directory - not of my choosing when installed!
