Windows 10: How do I change a taskbar icon, if it doesn't match the app's icon?

I recently rolled back Messenger to a previous version for unrelated reasons, and now I'm stuck with just the default blank icon on my taskbar. But as you can see in this screenshot, the icon for Messenger itself is correct! Just the taskbar icon is wrong. I know how to change the icon for a program or shortcut in Windows, but the problem is that the taskbar icon is not changed when I do that. See, I can swap it to the OneDrive icon but the taskbar is still wrong. How do I change the taskbar icon specifically? I've also tried restarting to see if it'll pick up the correct icon, no dice.

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

• 
  Click on the search bar on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Type system icons.
  
• 
  Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

how do I change google chrome icon?

I want to change the icon on the taskbar, I know how to change it in the properties but can't figure out how to add more icon options. For example if I made my own icon and wanted to use it in place of the chrome icon how would I do this?

 

NIGHTMARE icon in windows taskbar

Ok ... this is really an annoying thingy in Windows Vista that till today. My top wish list is to solve this !!! *Bang Head :banghead:*Bang Head :banghead:*Bang Head :banghead:*Bang Head :banghead:*Bang Head :banghead:

See attached pic ... for eg. open My Computer ... icon is of course as shown - the My Computer default Vista icon ... after you browse? *swoosh* kind of black magic ... it changes to that icon with the green arrow ... browsing back to My Computer it remains like that ... with the green arrow!!!

This happens to any and all folders ! ... When you load it ... it comes up with the default folder ... after exporing through folder it changes ... and remains like that.

For info : have tried a fresh installation of Vista to make sure that no bug got in. So must be some DAMN Vista settings
