How do I change the margins in the ruler up top? I have used this program for at least 20 years and never had this problem.Thank you for your help

Please note that in Windows 95, Write [write.exe] was replaced with WordPad. Since then, if you try to open

Write, Windows will launch WordPad instead.

To set margins in WordPad do this:

File > Page setup > Margins (inches)

Page margins can only be set as above, when printing. You can, however, set paragraph indents for individual paragraphs like this:

File ribbon > Paragraph group > Paragraph

or, if you prefer, you can set paragraph indents with the ruler. In the ruler, the upper control affects the first line in a paragraph and the bottom control affects succeeding lines.

The distinction between paragraph indents and page margins is that paragraph indents apply to individual paragraphs (as the term suggests) while page margins apply to the page as a whole.

In that Wordpad app, if you cannot click and drag those sliders on the ruler, does this work?

On the File tab, click Page Setup

On the resulting dialog, can you set the Left, Right, Top and Bottom margins and choose paper size, orientation... etc.?

 

Windows 10 Home desktop showing unwanted rulers on top and left side

Yesterday I noticed there were rulers on my desktop, one at the top and another on the left which I did not install. The rulers are light gray, about 1/8-inch wide and immovable (see attached image). They appear to have something to do with the position of any open window because you can see the markings on the ruler move when I reposition a window. If I stop moving windows they fade away in about 5 seconds. I have multiple monitors but the rulers only exist on the primary monitor. I selected another monitor as my primary and the rulers moved to the newly selected primary monitor. I've racked my brain but cannot think of anything I did that would have added these rulers. I've done a cold reboot, and changed my background theme but to no avail. I've searched and cannot find anything related to this issue. I would like to remove these, so I would appreciate any suggestions. I apologize if I should have put this in another category, I just wasn't sure where.
