Windows 10: How Do I change units of measure for just Data transfers?

I need to be able to change the unit of measure for file transfers from MBps to Mbps. All the flash cards use Mbps to state their speed and Windows uses MBps which can be confusing when I'm trying to diagnose a potential bottleneck. also, I it would be nice if it were toggleable so that I can turn it on and off when needed. also it would be nice if my 1TB Drive didn't show up as a Petabit.

There are two units of data transfer: Mbps and MBps. they look similar, but there are actually big differences.

Mbps stands for megabits per second, which indicates the number of bits transferred per second. A bit is the smallest unit of data stored in a computer and can only be 0 or 1. Mbps is commonly used to measure Internet speed, that is, how many bits of data can be transferred per second between your device and your Internet service provider.

MBps stands for megabytes per second and indicates the number of bytes transferred per second. A byte is a unit of eight bits that can store more information, such as a letter or a symbol.1 MBps is often used to measure how fast a file can be uploaded or downloaded, that is, how many bytes of data can be moved from one location to another in a given amount of time.

To remember the relationship between the two, you can use this formula: 1 MBps = 8 Mbps1 . That means that if you have a 50 Mbps Internet connection, you can achieve a maximum file transfer speed of 6.25 MBps (50 million bits divided by eight bits per byte).

It depends on what aspect of data transfer speed you want to know. If you want to know the bandwidth or performance of your Internet connection, then Mbps may be a more appropriate unit because it can be compared to the speed offered by your Internet service provider. If you want to know how long your file transfers take or how much space they take up, then MBps may be a more appropriate unit because it can be compared to the size of the file.

There is currently no way to change the units used by Windows when displaying data transfer speeds (e.g. from MBps to Mbps). If you want to know how many Mbps or MBps a file or network connection is using, you can use some online tools or calculators to convert.

Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

As for your 1TB drive showing up as a petabit, this is likely a display issue caused by using the wrong unit of measure. To fix this, you can change the unit of measure in your system settings to display the capacity in terabytes (TB) instead of petabits (Pb).



To change the unit of measure in your system settings to display the capacity of your storage drive in terabytes (TB), you can follow these steps:

1. Open File Explorer and right-click on the drive you want to change the unit of measure for.
   
2. Select "Properties" from the context menu.
   
3. In the Properties dialog box, go to the "General" tab.
   
4. Under "Capacity," you should see the size of the drive listed in bytes. Click on the "Change..." button next to it.
   
5. In the "Change Bytes" dialog box, select "Terabytes (TB)" from the dropdown menu.
   
6. Click "OK" to apply the changes.
   

The capacity of your drive should now be displayed in terabytes (TB) instead of petabits (Pb).



Note that this change will only affect the display of the drive capacity in Windows Explorer/File Explorer. Other applications and tools may continue to display the capacity in bytes or another unit of measure.

Change ruler measurement units in Paint

You can try the following procedures below:

Have a ruler displayed under Paint.

Click on the View menu > Ruler

By default the measurement unit is in pixels:

To change it, click on the View menu again and select the measurement unit of your choice:

pixels

Inch

Centimeters
