Windows 10: How do I change W10 password

    How do I change W10 password


    If I start up my PC or bring it back to life after using 'sleep' it course asks for my password, and it works fine.
    However ... how do I change this.

    I tried following online instructions

    Start > settings > accounts > sign-in options
    then click on Password > change your account password.

    Here it does not accept my password - says its wrong - yet accepts it on PC login ? ... do I need to change it somehwere else?

    I want to force w10 to accept my selection for a new password

    I don't have a password hint, so that can't be the reason for W10's refusal of my password selection. The password I selected (which W10 refuses to accept) has only 5 characters repeated from my current password. The password I want has 15 characters....
    TEN characters unrepeated. Had it not had those repeated characters, the password would have been accepted by W10.

    This is the password I want. I will NOT change my current password until I can have my choice.

    When changing my password, feel free to tell me how to create a good password, but DO NOT force me to comply with your arbitrary hard coded rules.

    Repeat question: If I decide to use a local account will the password requirements be reduced? If so, in what ways?

    Disclaimer : I have never tried this myself. Try it at your own risk.

    On your sign in screen, under the password box, there is an option "I forgot my password".
    Have you tried that ? That might help you changing a new password.

    For the benefits of others who might have the same question as well as those who might want to know if such idea will work (I, myself included).......................

    If your password contains numbers, check "NumLock" when you log in and make sure it is in the same state during the password change.

    "CapsLock" is another possibility, as is keyboard language.

    When you have typed a password there's an 'eye' icon at the right hand end of the password box. Click on this and you can see the plain text and check that it's what you think you have typed.
