  1. How do I change Win8.1 display resolution in a Dual Boot Win10/8.1 Lenovo laptop

I have a Dual Boot Lenovo laptop. Primary system Win10 and the Secondary system Win8.1. I can change the display resolution in Win10, I cannot change the display resolution when booting Win8.1. In Win8.1 the choice for changing display resolution is grayed-out. In Win8.1 the display is set at 2560 X 1440. I need a lower resolution. In Win10, Advanced display settings.Display informationInteral DisplayDesktop resolution 1680 x 1050Active signal resolution 2560 x 1440Refresh Rate 60.048 HzBit depth 8 bitColor format

    Win10 laptop w/laptop display (no others) labeled 2, can't change to 1

alphanumeric and Helmut, Thank you for your replies.

    1. The drivers were installed when Windows 10 was installed. There was nothing on the laptop prior to installing Windows 10.
    2. I don't have another display to try attaching as suggested.
    3. Not sure if it's always been like this or not. I just started looking at the configuration settings a week or so ago.
    4. To check hardware status, I've run a bunch of Lenovo tests and update checks. Nothing found.
    5. I did the Device Manager suggestion. 2 PnP monitors listed ... clicked "Show Hidden devices" ... found 2 more PnP monitors for a total of 4 ... uninstalled all 4 ... restarted ... same situation. Results: Device Manager now only lists 2 PnP monitors total (no hidden monitors) even though the only monitor is the laptop built-in monitor, but no change on the designation of laptop monitor being number "2" monitor.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. Not sure why it is like this. Might be something like Win10 compatibility, old hardware, or similar.

I've taken enough of your time on this. I can live with it as it is. Might decide to upgrade to a new and current laptop, or just proceed as is. Anyway, your responses are greatly appreciated!

    EDIT:

Update. I tried Diskpart's set as "active partition" method, but I got an error:

    Code:
    Code:
DISKPART> list disk Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- --- Disk 0 Online 465 GB 0 B * Disk 1 Online 119 GB 0 B DISKPART> select disk 0 Disk 0 is now the selected disk. DISKPART> list partition Partition ### Type Size Offset ------------- ---------------- ------- ------- Partition 1 Reserved 16 MB 1024 KB Partition 2 Primary 465 GB 17 MB DISKPART> select partition 2 Partition 2 is now the selected partition. DISKPART> active The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk. The ACTIVE command can only be used on fixed MBR disks. DISKPART>
The 119GB is not another hard drive; it's actually the USB flash drive that I'm using. So, the only Windows 10 installation is on that 500GB hard drive (which is showing up as 465GB).

EDIT2: Well, I have discovered that GPT drives don't use 'active' partitions, only MBR drives do. I'm unsure why Macrium requested one, as it correctly identified it as a Win10 installation, but maybe Win10 can be installed as an MBR sometimes.

So, I heard some people in Kyhi's thread being suggested to try EasyBCD. Unfortunately, that isn't working, either:

More than 1 minute to boot Windows 10, even with SSD

I have a full description of the problem here: More than 1 minute to boot Windows 10, even with SSD

For some reason, a few weeks ago, my Windows 10 is taking over 1 minute to boot. That is, more than 1 minute just in that initial black window with the Windows 10 logo and the little dots circling.

    1. That's my current hardwarespecifiations
    2. Windows boot screen stays more than 1 minute to then display the login screen
    3. Initially, I had just one Windows 10 x64 installation, then I installed a new Win10 on dual boot to compare
    4. After the new win10 dual boot installation, the boot time was reduced to 8 seconds (in this case the default win10 was automatically set to the new installation)
    5. But changing to default win10 startup to the old win10, the time came back to 1 minute
    6. Both win10 are with Fast Startup OFF
    7. Safe boot doesn't change the boot time
    8. The red led in front of the desktop (disk I/O) is completely OFF until the login screen is reached (so, no disk I/O during 1 minute)
    9. The drivers for BIOS, RAID, Motherboard are the same for both win10 installations, so it's not a hardware or driver problem.
