    No, OneNote and Notepad are not the same.

    I am pretty sure the program you want to use for this problem is NotePad. It is a simple text editor file that save in text only format.

    Are you sure windows.inf is a folder? That sounds like the name of a file that would hold configuration information for a program. It would be text only format, which is whyyou would want to use NotePad to edit it. However, I do not find a windows.inf file
    or folder on my system ...

    Can you provide a link to the instructions you are trying to follow?

    How do I check if there is different text on notepad files same name

    DiffVue (30-day trial) or Beyond Compare (free trial) will do that.

    EDIT: I forgot, use Notepad++ and add the 'compare' plugin as @lx07 advises in post #4.

    Hopefully you have the "same name" files in different Folders, can't save 2 or more files of the exact same name in the same Folder, have to be different by at least one character. Other details such as size, date, etc., don't count.

    I was just going to suggest that myself, however when I looked at my notepad++ the plugin wasn't there anymore.

    How do I check if there is different text on notepad files same name

    The plugin loader seems to have gone in latest build.

    You can download the compare plugin here Release v2.0.0 pnedev/compare-plugin· GitHub

    Then copy contents to "C:\Program Files\Notepad++\plugins" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\plugins" depending if you installed 64 or 32 bit version of Notepad++.

    Works fine.

    I found that too. I had to manually update Notepad++ to v7.5.6 and, when I did, the 'Compare' plugin was there.

    Look at the picture.

    If the line is the same it isn't highlighted. If there is a deleted line it is red. If there is a new line it is green. If there is a difference it is yellow.
