Windows 10: How do I choose specific folders to download files and images to in windows10 s mode for 2020?

In previous windows versions anytime I would download something from the internet, or upload from my cameras, a box would appear asking me if I wanted default folder or to choose which folder. In Win 10 this is not happening. Nothing goes to the same folder...sometimes it is "This Computer" and sometimes it is "One Drive", but every time I upload my photos, I have to then go search for them to find out where the computer decided to put them. Then I have to figure out how to move them to the folders I wanted them to go into in the first place. I've searched the Microsoft website and only getting responses from like 4 to 5 years ago and nothing is working for me on this computer now, today. I cannot be the only one having this problem. If this hasn't been fixed in the past 5 years...I mean, come on...this should be such a simple thing to do. I upload photos almost daily and this is a constant issue. When I start saving things from other locations, it is going to get worse. The same thing happens when I try to move images from my phone to the computer. I either have to go through some online site or email the photos to myself and then download them from the email. Again, I have to then go search for the new photos every time I do this. This is very annoying.

Is it possible to download files to specific folders?

I'm sorry if I am not making myself clear to you. I do not want to know how to set the default location to download files. I want to know how to download them each time, to whichever folder I choose.

It is a waste of time to download everything to one location, because I always want the file in a specific folder depending on what the file is.

It is the same problem if I use Edge.

 

How do I locate/ extract the imagex.exe file?


To try and keep a long story as short as possible:

I'm trying to install Win 10 on an external SSD, which I can boot on my MacBook Pro.

To complete the installation I have downloaded:
- install.esd and converted it to install.wim
- Windows 10 Pro ISO from Microsoft
- Boot Camp drivers from Apple

The final piece of the puzzle is to complete this step:

• Windows AIK (free) running on your Virtual Machine or on your PC, or just the imagex.exe file (the rest of the Windows AIK package is not needed)
  • Download imagex.exe
  • Download Windows AIK extract imagex.exe (this download and installation is not required if you have already downloaded imagex.exe)

This is to complete this final stage of the installation:

Step 3: Deploy the Windows installation image

1. Still using the command prompt in admin mode (you didn't close it, did you? *Wink ), locate the imagex.exe file mentioned in the "What you'll need" section and access its folder. In our example, we have put this file in C:\imagex\imagex.exe
2. Your Windows installation ISO has probably several installation options in it. So in order to identify the right one, type in the following:imagex.exe /info C:\wim\install.wim
3. Now identify the INDEX number of the installation that you wish to deploy. You will use it in the next step.
4. Type the following and hit enter. Replace 1 with the INDEX you identified in the previous step. Also remember to replace o: with the letter you have chosen in the previous step:imagex.exe /apply C:\wim\install.wim 1 o:
   This will take some time. The Windows installation image is being deployed to your external drive
5. Once done, type the following to create the boot section (remember to replace o: and b: with the letters you've chosen in the previous step):\windows\system32\bcdboot o:\windows /f ALL /s b:
   
   
   I'm doing this on a Toshiba Laptop running Windows 7.
   I've also purchased a genuine license for Windows 10 Pro.
