Windows 10: How do I clean my drive? nothing seems to work

Hello, I am trying to clean my drive with an old windows update on it that's 8.35GB in space and it won't remove it. here's what I've done.-I tried uninstalling windows updates, and reinstalling them-I ran cleanmgr in administrator mode and tried to remove it-I ran storage sense, and tried to remove it that way-I ran sfc /scannow which keeps finding corrupt files-I ran the following commands in cmd with administrator privledgeism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestorehealthI'm not sure what else to do bes

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

clean possibly infected flash drives and CD-RWs

Your steps in post #1 should work for 99% of viruses that may be on a usb flash drive. However, there are a very few viruses that can infect the MBR of a drive. I would use Diskpart from a command prompt (Admin) to clean them. In the command prompt type DISKPART then, at the Diskpart prompt use the commands:

LIST DISKnote the disk number of the usb and use it in place of # in the command:SELECT DISK #
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

After this you will have cleaned the partition table from the usb and created a partition using the whole of the the available space. You can then format this partition in File Explorer.


For a CD-RW, if you right-click on it in File Explorer there is an Erase option.

 

DVD Drive issues.

The games used to run, now apparently the disks don't even read.

Go to Device Manager and remove the DVD
Scan for hardware changes and update driver as OS suggests

Still not working?

1) Clean the heads.
2) Run a diagnostic program on the drive.

Nothing else has changed about your system aside from the OS?

Revert to XP Home, assuming you don't find the source of the problem in steps above.
