How do I clean-up appdata\local\packages... folders that contain old attachments and photos

There are several folders under users\...\appdata\local\packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_... \localstate\files\s0\ then numbers, ie 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 14, 128... with subfolders called "attachments" and "photos". Some of these appears to be attachments from emails, but there are also website logos, etc. Many of these are very old. Is there a way to clean up these files other than individually going into the "attachments" and "photos" for each "numbered" subfolder? Is there a setting to get Windows to clear these out, routinely.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 photo app

    Hi Ralph & Barbara,

We suggest that you reset Windows Photo app. Follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + R.
    • Type %appdata%\..\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Photo_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
    • Delete all the contents of the folder.
Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

  3. Photos / Edit Stopped Working

This seems to be a hiccup with the application's software. What you can try is to do the following steps which will reset the internal state of the Photo app:

    • Press Windows button + R.
    • Type: %appdata%\..\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
    • Delete all the contents of that folder

Let us know if this suggestion helped.

How do I clean-up appdata\local\packages... folders that contain old attachments and photos

    Packages

    Hi Tril645

The folder appdata/local/packages is a Windows System folder, it contains all user configuration settings for all of the installed Modern UWP Apps (Photos, Movies and TV, Weather . . etc.)

Are you having difficulty with this folder?
