Windows 10: How do I copy a DVD-R with old home made videos to my Windows 10 computer so it will play...

How do I copy a DVD-R with old home made videos 1999-2007 to my Windows 10 computer so it will play from the computer files as I want to backup all these old DVD's?

* The DVD will play with VLC media player from E Drive

* The DVD E drive only shows "files Ready to Be Written to Disc 1" - desktop.ini file configuration settings. There are no folders or anything else that appears.

* I tried right clicking on the "E" drive to copy it and pasting it to a new folder on my computer a folder appeared within the new folder with the words "DVD RW Drive" but it's empty. Also, when I tried to get VLC media player to open it from my computer, it doesn't work as it cant find anything in that folder.

* I don't understand why I can get the DVD to play from the E drive using the VLC media player but I can copy the DVD's content to my computer and play it. I really want to have a backup of these DVD's and be able to save them to USB or watch them from my Windows 10 computer.

I have some old 8mm films that were put on a DVD-R years ago - why can't I play it in my DVD/CD drive on my computer that was recently upgraded to Windows 10? I was always able to play it on Windows .

1. May I know, which video player you are using to play the video?
   
2. Are you able to play the video on any other computer?
   
3. Are you facing the issue with only specific video or with all the other videos?
   

This issue could also occur when the USB or SD card is corrupted when you have transferred the video.

Try the troubleshooting methods provided below to further narrow down the root cause of the issue.

Method 1: Try a different video player.

1. Try to use a different USB to transfer the video, if you are playing it on other computer or device.
   
2. I suggest you to try a different video player and check if it plays.
   
3. You can also check on different device or computer.
   

Step: Run Windows Media player troubleshooter.

1. Press Windows + R key on your keyboard together.
2. Copy and paste the below command and run each at a time and follow the onscreen instruction on the troubleshooter
3. msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerConfigurationDiagnostic
4. msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerLibraryDiagnostic
5. msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerDVDDiagnostic
6. Reboot the computer and check.

I realize that you want to find the media player on the computer or view the video in the cd/dvd. I will try to help you with this issue.

To open Windows Media Player follow these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + R to get the run window.
  
• 
  Type “wmplayer.exe” and hit enter to open Windows Media Player.
  

To access the contents on the cd/dvd, follow these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + E to get the “This PC” screen.
  
• 
  Double click on the DVD drive to check if that helps.
