How do I diagnose Windows PCs started dropping NAS drives

For the past two or three years I've had the same router supporting a desktop PC and a laptop PC. I recently bought and installed a new 2nd NAS drive. I don't know whether that is coincidence or not, but now both Windows machines have started sporadically dropping one or the other or both NAS drives. Sometime they reappear within 10-15 minutes. Sometimes they don't re-appear until one or both of the machines have been rebooted. Is the new NAS drive causing this? Is my router failing? Is it something else? How do I begin to d

    Windows 10 & NAS Box

    Hi Peter,

A few possible reasons can cause this issue. To help us identify the cause of this problem, we would like to know the following information:

    • How is your NAS box connected to your computer? (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB)
    • Are you using a program provided by the manufacturer of your NAS box to access it?
    • Do you receive any error messages when accessing your NAS box? If yes, what is the exact error message?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, we suggest that you perform the solution provided by omiklik (Most Helpful Reply)
in the following thread: Unable to see NAS drive on Network - Win 10 PC.

Keep us updated on the status of the issue, and we will be glad to assist you further.

  3. One computer is dropping NAS connections

I've got several computers in my office, and just two weeks ago one (only one) of them will drop network connection to the NAS drive each night when it goes to sleep. When you try to reconnect, it tells you the NAS is unavailable, even though I can ping
the NAS directly from that host. The only solution I can find is to delete the network location, then re-add it back in again, which then it connects fine, all day no issues until the computer goes to sleep again that night. Any suggestions?

NAS drive is not visible in Explorer

I have a puzzling issue. I have a laptop with Windows 8.1 (wireless attached), I have recently added a Windows 10 PC (cable attached) to temporarily replace my old server and I have update a further PC from WIN7 to WIN10 (wireless attached).

On the updated PC(WIN10) I can see the NAS drive in Explorer listed under NETWORK in the left hand pane.

Since this was updated I can no longer see the NAS drive, listed under NETWORK, in either the laptop or the temporary server replacement PC. What I have on these two devices is a NAS icon listed under NETWORK LOCATIONS in the right hand pane.

Although I can manage the NAS from all the PCs, and as such isn't a problem, I don't understand why this is and even after much trawling through of settings I can not find a reason

    Any help?

Addendum: I also have an old WIN7 PC on the network as well and that does not show the NAS drive under NETWORK and neither does it have a NETWORK LOCATIONS icon either.

There is also a satellite receiver that is on the network (I had forgotten about it as it isn't used much) and this is ONLY visible on the WIN7 PC.
