Windows 10: How do I disable BitLocker when the Volume is Locked? I have no recovery password and I...

Randomly switched on my laptop normally and was stuck in this BitLocker loop. I have no recovery passwords saved to the email that they are supposed to be on, and none of the command prompts or BIOS setup instructions are helping with anything. The Volume is still locked and I'm unable to use my device. Please help.

1. On the sign-in screen, click on "I forgot my password" or "Reset password."

3. You will be prompted to enter the recovery key. Copy and paste the BitLocker Recovery Key from your Microsoft account page where your device is listed under "Devices."

If you don't have access to the BitLocker recovery key or if it doesn't work, you can try using the Windows installation media to reset your password. Here are the steps:

1. Create a Windows installation media (such as a bootable USB drive or DVD) on another working PC using the Media Creation Tool provided by Microsoft.
   
2. Insert the installation media into your locked PC and restart it.
   
3. Press the necessary key to access the boot menu or BIOS setup, and select the installation media as the boot device.
   
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows.
   
5. When you reach the screen where you're prompted to select the partition to install Windows, click on "Repair your computer" instead.
   
6. Select "Troubleshoot" and then "Reset this PC" or "Advanced options" and then "Command Prompt."
   
7. In the Command Prompt, type the following command to reset the password for the local user account: net user [username] [newpassword], where [username] is the name of the locked account and [newpassword] is the new password you want to use.
   
8. Restart your PC and sign in with the new password.

to disable BitLocker, you will need to have the recovery key or the password that was used to enable it. If you don't have either of these, you will not be able to disable BitLocker and access your files. For more details about how to find your recovery key, please see Finding your BitLocker recovery key in Windows - Microsoft Support.

Important: Microsoft support is unable to provide, or recreate, a lost BitLocker recovery key.



If you have tried using the "manage-bde -protectors -disable C:" command and it didn't work, it's possible that the volume is still locked. You can try unlocking the volume using the recovery key or password by running the "manage-bde -unlock C: -RecoveryPassword [password]" command in the Command Prompt. Replace [password] with the actual recovery password.

Please follow the suggestions below and check if you are able to boot to your desktop.

• Places to look for your BitLocker key:
  • On a printout you saved. Look in places you keep important papers.
    
  • Saved on a USB flash drive. Plug the USB flash drive into your locked PC and follow the instructions. If you saved the key as a text file on the flash drive, use a different computer to read the text file.
  • In your Microsoft account. To get your recovery key, go to
    BitLocker Recovery Keys.

• Or ask someone for help:
  • Ask someone with administrator privileges on the same PC to unlock it with their key.
  • If your PC is connected to a domain (usually a work or school computer), ask a system administrator for your recovery key
