Windows 10: How do I disabled "use as a USB flash drive" for a CD/DVD drive

I recently got a new external CD/DVD drive, and have been using DVD+RW disks with it. As an experiment, i tried selecting "use as a USB flash drive" in the menu. After ejecting the disk, and placing it back in, it did not show the prompt again and only allowed me to "use as a USB flash drive", which is not how I intend to use the drive. I'm running Windows 11 22H2 and I have not been able to find a solution.

CD/DVD drive is not correctly displayed

All the resolutions listed under Method 1 apply to the cases when CD/DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs. Fortunately, my drive is recognized by Windows and other programs. I tried all the step-by-step resolutions listed, but did not
work. For some reason, my CD/DVD drive icon is not the right icon for the drive, and is for compact flash. Any idea?

I also reset my BIOS settings back to factory reset, but it did not help.

 

CD to flash drive

Hi Pam,

There are several ways to copy your pictures from the CD to the Flash drive. One of which is by using the shortcut keys to copy and paste it.

We suggest following the steps below:

• Insert the CD and flash drive to your PC.
  
• Use Cortana and type File Explorer then click it.
• Choose This PC.
• Open the CD drive.
• If all the pictures are in a specific folder, press Ctrl + A
  on your keyboard to automatically choose all the pictures then, press Ctrl + C to copy it.
• Afterwards, Open the Flash drive, choose the location where you want to copy the pictures then press
  Ctrl + V to paste it.

DVD drive thinks it’s a CD drive

I know this has been discussed before but none of those answers have helped me.

I have an internal TSSTcorp dvd drive. Windows 10 22H2 is giving it CD-ROM drivers and it won’t recognise DVDs. I have tried all the suggestions on the internet to no avail. I have tried a replacement drive to no avail. I have tried disconnecting the data and power cables and rebooting, shutting down, reconnecting and rebooting to no avail. I have tried devmgmt to uninstall, reboot to no avail.

After some more digging here is what I have found so far:

ASUS P5QPL-AM motherboard lists the drive model name correctly but says it is a CD ROM. Windows Explorer lists it as a DVD drive but assigns it cd rom drivers. Does this mean it is a motherboard problem and not a Windows problem? I tried a usb live trial of Linux Mint and it gave me the same problems but I don’t know if that was because maybe Linux does not recognise dvds natively.

I would do a clean install to see if that helps, but I cloned my hard drive onto an SSD and now Windows says there is no recovery partition despite it showing in drive manager.

EDIT: My Samsung external USB DVD drive works normally if that changes things at all.
