Windows 10: How do I disconnect iCloud but not have my files deleted off of my computer?

Right now iCloud is full, so I cannot use my computer properly. I see red x's besides all of my files. And, somehow, because of this, I cannot sometimes open and certainly not edit my files. So I tried disconnecting iCloud and all my files were deleted from my computer. That is bad. I simply want my files to stay on my computer, and I do not want anything to do with iCloud anymore. How do I do that?

Steps:

1. Open regedit (Win+R, "regedit")
2. Enter key in address bar
3. Deprecate key
   • Opt A. - delete
   • Opt B. - rename something different (e.g. prefix with "_")
4. Close and re-open to observe result

Well when i go to icloud and click on the checkbox to turn off icloud drive it’s telling me all the files stored in icloud will be deleted from my pc, doesn’t that mean that the big files i placed on the icloud drive folder will get deleted? Because that’s the thing I’m trying to delete icloud without removing those files both from either icloud or my computer since theyre such big files
