Windows 10: How do i disconnect my kids email address from my local admin account?

Hi,Background:I'm on windows 11 and only ever had a local admin user that i used to log into my laptop on.My kid wanted to play minecraft java so we setup a family child account linked to my hotmail account which was completely independent to the laptop at this pointWe went to Minecraft.net to redeem the code for download but before we could do that we were prompted for xbox login. We logged in as the new child account and selected the minecraft installer.Now i find that my local admin account had been associated with my kids family account! How do i unlink my childs email from what used to

Hi Geoff, welcome to the Ten Forums.

In Windows 10 it is not possible to use the same MS account for more than one user account on the same computer. If User-A signs in with an MS account User-A@AnyEmail.com, that MS account (email address) cannot be used to sign in any other user than User-A. User-B needs to use either a different MS account or a local account. However, you can use the same MS account on multiple computers.

There's no way to work around this restriction.

In your case I would simply install Windows 10 on both computers with a local admin account, then create an additional standard user account as an MS account on both computers using the same email address. If any of the two computers requires the gaming account, too, as you explained I would make this account a local account.

Unauthorized Emails from my account?

It is more than likely that your email account was hacked, either by a virus sniffing your password, or just simply hacked.

Either way, change your password on your email account. Unfortunately the damage by already be done. They already have your contact list and your email address associated with that contact list. There is nothing stopping them from sending out emails using their own SMTP servers to everyone on your contact list and claiming the emails are from your email address. They don't actually have to have access to your yahoo account or even any yahoo server to send emails to people that come from your address.

 

Little kids accounts require email and require a credit card to set up


This is directed at Microsoft not anyone here but seriously I work in IT and this whole kids account set up is totally insane.

you have to start in the kids local account
sign up for a hotmail email address (this doesnt ask for all data to start with just basic), once done
swap back to your admin account log into family settings and send an invite.
swap back to the kids account using the new Microsoft login
open the invite email and hit accept which now asks you to enter some more details like gender and date of birth. what it dosnt say is you need to click the accept on the email again and then select NOT NOW for it to actually accept (this bit really isnt explained or makes any sense)
swap back to your main admin account log into family settings and at last you can now make some restrictions.
