How do I do system backup before upgrade of win 8.1 to win10? I've backed up all important files photos, etc on external drive

If Win7 is free-upgraded to Win10, the partition backed up, then rolled back to Win7 before 29 July, will Win10 install from the backup with license at a later date?

This is a somewhat complex question, so please only answer if you fully understand it and
know the answer!

Background: I have a Windows 7 computer that could be upgraded to Windows 10. I would like the free upgrade, but I don't wish to upgrade until I have to.

So I intend to do the following, if it will work:

• Upgrade Windows7 to Windows 10 before 29 July (i.e. take advantage of the free upgrade offer).
• Do a partition backup for the upgraded (Win10) partition.
• Roll back Windows 10 to Windows 7 (before 29 July).
• Keep running Windows 7 until a little before new Critical Updates cease to be provided for it (14/1/2020).
• Backup my personal data files.
• Restore the OS partition from the Win10 partition backup I made in Step 2 above.
• Copy my personal data files from my most recent backup to their respective folders on the Win10 partition.

My question is: Will Step 6 above result in a licensed Windows 10, or is the license destroyed forever at Microsoft's server on the rollback to Win7 in step 3?

I have 10 running on one pc, but the question is if I install 10 on a pc that is

either retail or OEM in dual boot or over the existing operating system 7 or 8..

will the win 10 free upgrade reflect the installed win 10 version or the installed, previous installed win 7 or 8 version.

Reservation made now reflect 7 and 8 upgrades on or after the 29th of july 2015.

The upgrade from 10 being tested on a pc that had, or still has, one of the qualifying operatings systems on it will get the version of win 10 based on their base system.

An example is Win7 home gets win10 home, but if the original operating system is not installed anymore and the win 10 keys have not been issued, how can the version keys be assigned to that system.

Will it be using the user's microsoft account to tied to that machine and what if there are multiple machines that use that account and are qualified for the upgrade .

The other question I have is over the free upgrade not being the version a user would like to install and be able to upgrade over the free version for a discounted amount.

Say the list for win 10 pro is $ 200 per pc and I have 6 units that qualify for win 10 home but I would prefer the pro version and with a $70 gap between the versions offered be lowered as per each machine volume increases, the price goes down.

The first machine reduction price could be the catalyst to start things say with 20 to 25 % less than 30 to 35% for two, 40 to 45% for three and so on.

This is just a suggestion based on my use of win10 and some of the issues it faces.

If win 7 and 8 work, what is the reason for me to move of the system at this point.

Free does not always mean better.

 

Is it possible to easily setup Raid-1 on this system ?

They don't offer Xeon W3680 that you suggested

So would that be good enough ?
