Windows 10: How do I easily sync Onedrive files after Windows 10 upgrade?

I just upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday and now I have a serious problem with Onedrive. All of my save files for programs like Quickbooks are stored on Onedrive. Further, photos and other files that I use for my real estate business are stored on Onedrive. Many files can go as far as 15 folders deep.

Now that smart files are gone, I have no access to all of my folders in Onedrive, which means that I can no longer easily drag and drop files that I need saved on onedrive. Nor can I access my files if I need to send a file as an attachment in an email, or open up a company in Quickbooks.

Basically, the onedrive client is completely useless. Is there an alternative? What do I do? My files are way larger than my local HD space

Walter, I have been a critic of Windows 10 internet usage too and learned that it was indeed the OneDrive that was giving me headaches.

Once I disabled OneDrive on my home network (3 PC's), Windows 10 has been an absolute joy regarding internet usage.

I do believe Microsoft should rethink how OneDrive is initially implemented, and make it more of a focus to allow users to easily turn it off if they run into it using all the bandwidth to Sync.

I just want to add that there could be a lot more people having this problem than reported. The reason is that the link to OneDrive is sort of silently broken. Most of my files were still there, it was only changes in my OneDrive folder AFTER I installed
Windows 10 (or by other computers connected to OneDrive) that weren't being sync'd.

I do have another file-syncing app on my computer from a totally different company, and that always maintained a "peer" to "This PC" and continued to sync files even after the Windows 10 upgrade. Whatever caused the problem it seemed to only affect OneDrive.

 

Have no clue as to what smart files are, you should have access to your One Drive files none the less, as far as sharing goes, go to One Drive settings and set up sharing as needed.

You can use the tutorial below to set OneDrive to sync with All files and folders on my OneDrive. Afterwards, you should be able access anything on your OneDrive in your OneDrive folder in File Explorer.

Allow me to further explain my problem:

1. Total Onedrive file sizes far exceed my local HD space..... Cant sync all.
2. My files are 10 to 20 folders deep. and I have thousands of files within hundreds of folders, it is impractical to choose individual files to sync.

Before, with smart files, I used to be able to "see" ALL my folders and drag and drop files and access them when I needed, since everything was "ONLINE ONLY" the files would download when I needed them locally

 

ok, Quickbooks, wont even open in Windows 10 now

 

Another option would be to use OneDrive online.

I'm screwed. This is a nightmare *cry is there anyway to revert back to windows 8? System restore?

 

Old way:
Step 1: Open file explorer locate file and open
Step 2: modify file
Step 3: Save the file

New Way:
Step 1: Open browser, navigate to onedrive.com
Step 2: locate the file
Step 3: download the file
Step 4: open and modify the file
Step 5: Go back to onedrive.com
Step 6: re-upload the file
Step 7: find and delete the downloaded file

Am I the only person who see's anything wrong with this?

 

Nope, you aren't the only one *Sad Sadly it looks like there isn't a solution (yet)

 

The only other option that I know of is to have a larger drive to be able to sync them all. *Sad

 

OK, I was able to revert back to Windows 8.1..... THANK GOD

I've got my placeholders back and thus my (online-only) Onedrive folders bback in file explorer.
