  2. HP Pavilion 10 error "You're PC won't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."

    To answer your question:

    1. No I haven't made any changes prior to the issues.

    2. My Notebook is HP Pavilion 10 TS Notebook PC.

By the way, I am using HDMI to project my Notebook.

    Thanks!

  3. Activate Output To TV Screen

    Hi!!!

I have just upgraded my HP - G62-222US Notebook to Windows 10. I have read replies on connecting the notebook to TV with HDMI cable. However I am unable to locate 'output to TV' in display settings,

    Request for assistance.

    Thanks & regards,

How do I enable hdmi on HP Notebook

On one of my older HP Notebooks it's a key of F4 or combination of Fn + F4 to toggle between HDMI or LCD panel or both at the same time. The only time I've used HDMI was with a couple of Notebooks in for repair connected to an ASUS 27" monitor that has VGA, DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI inputs that has to be also selected to match using the monitor's OSD/On Screen Display menu.

    1. On my Toshiba it's either F4 or FN+F4 depending on whether you are using the special function keys or not.
    2. You can also get to the same by Notification Centre > Project.
    3. Again thru Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings.
    4. Or again through Control Panel > Display > Project to a second screen.
    5. Or again if you have Intel iGPU > Right click Desktop > Graphics Properties... > Display > Multiple Displays.

Tried everything and thank you. I spent a couple of hours with an HP support tech on their support site and he took over and tried several things without success. Never could find the toggle switch I originally used. HP tech finally decided it best to do a system restore and take it back to factory settings. I decided not to do this and try to put everything back...........so it is best to do without hdmi service and watch my college hockey and other things on my Notebook. Sure do miss them big screen. Strange how it worked so good and just stopped. After chatting with HP I went into dinner and sae the hdmi work and it put my desktop on my tv screen for a few seconds and then stopped again. So it is trying to work, I just can't find the answer.

In Device Manager what does it show for Display Adapters (sorry if this was already asked)? Does this device have switchable graphics?

On my desktop PC, on a clean install, my Display Adapter is listed as Standard VGA. It's just the stock driver and I can only run one monitor. Extend etc does not work. If I wait a few minutes for Windows update to catch up the NVidia drivers get installed. Once that happens I get all three of my Monitors back. I would imagine it's the same or similar deal on my laptop. I only ever run an external USB monitor on it so I can't say what happens exactly.

Anyway, if your laptop has switchable graphics, and is refusing to switch to the more powerful GPU, that might explain what's happening. Or the display driver is corrupted etc. Also look under monitors in Device Manager, with and without the TV connected. On my laptop there are symbols above the F keys denoting what they do. Brightness, volume up down etc. The one with a projector screen is the one that toggles the external for me. For my ASUS its an ATK utility that does that, if that's not installed, those keys don't do anything when you press the Fn key. In the past I had to install that manually, these days Windows update does it for me.

Thank you. My Display Adapter is an Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500 and shows that the latest driver is installed. I do not see where this device has switchable graphics or not. Where do I go from here?

  10. Switchable graphics means it has more than one GPU. My ASUS laptop for instance has AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7670M 1GB DDR3 VRAM. The 7660G is in my A-10 APU (CPU+GPU). The 7670M is a second dedicated GPU on the motherboard. It can switch between the two at will. On battery for example it will use the 7660 to save power and prolong battery life. I have 2 listings under Display Adapter. If you only have the one you likely don't have switchable graphics.

What does it show under Monitors in Control Panel device manager? Does it show the second display?

There is no label or mention of monitors in my control panel. Is it somewhere else?

  12. Ops, that should have been device manager, not control panel. Or go to Settings > System > Display.

How do I enable hdmi on HP Notebook

I would try another HDMI lead, inspect sockets and plugs, especially in view of the intermittent nature.
The specs tell you whether there is switchable graphics. I can't find that specific model, you tell us.

The Device Manager will show two under Display adapters if it has two.
    However that is not relevant.

In Control Panel > Devices and Printers, will show external monitor.

The switch is for an external monitor, not specifically HDMI.
