    Hey Guys,
    I found (on Intel's site) that the Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 does NOT support "Hosted Network Support". Thanks to this thread, it now makes sense: The Intel computer WILL support mobile hot spot and allow a laptop to connect, but ONLY if the Intel computer has an internet connection. Window's appears to be 'helping' me by NOT letting me create a hot spot if there isn't internet. I want a local IIS box over wifi and I don't care about internet either.
    I believe that the only solution is to buy another USB wifi device that allows "Hosted Network Support" and forget all about the mobile hot spot feature in Windows.
    PS: The only way (it appears) to start this at powerup is to create a command line batch file w/ "Netsh WLAN Start HostedNetwork". I'll bet Linux can do this in its sleep...

    I think, that's if this is a Windows driver issue, and not an Intel hardware/firmware issue.

    I know this is late but this issue is driver issue. On my side I have 2 computer running with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 on Win 10. Both are unable to run "Hosted Network ". After installing driver version 18.33.0.1 on 1 of the computer, "Hosted Network" can be run successfully on the installed computer.

    Thank you for that, opp354. The latest one for Win10 64-bit as of today, December 14, 2017 on Intel's website is 20.10.2 The oldest version they have available is 19.50.0 from February 2017.

    Where were you able to get 18.33.0? Also, did happen to try though Linux, whether through a virtual machine or directly? Thanks!

    I get the driver from "snappy driver installer" program. I am running the Win 10 directly on the machine. If required I can try to upload the driver some where.
