  1. How do I extend an 'old' partition?

That question won't be enough to explain my problem so I'll just try to place it in form of a story.

I have a C drive with 932GB of storage space, I don't like to keep all of my files, pictures, games and other apps to be in that one partition. I partition this drive to make 4 more drives technically correct because partitions behave like a whole different drive. Their name is D, E, G, and H. The D drive was the first one to be created, then E, then G and after that H.

I realize that C drive, which has Windows, is about to get full, and that a Windows version update is coming which will be more than 20GB. So, I need to extend the C drive, now here comes the problem, the disk management app won't allow me to extend the C drive. It only allows me to extend and merge the latest created partition H, meaning that I can extend only H and I can merge a newly created empty partition with the H drive only.

Talking about a third party software. AOMEI Partition assistant, it cannot get the work done.

    Any solution?

    :)

  2. How to extend C partition

    Hi Kevin,

Thank you for the information provided.

Please to inform you that you need to have an “unallocated disk space” to the right of the Partition\Volume you wish to extend on the same drive. Only when “unallocated disk space” is available “extend” option is highlighted.

I suggest you to try these steps and check if they helps.

Step1: Press Windows + R and Diskmgmt.msc and try the following

    a. Right click the basic volume want to extend.

    b. Click extend volume.

    c. Follow the instruction on the screen.

Step2: Open a command prompt and type diskpart.

At the DISKPART prompt, type list volume. Make note of the basic volume you want to extend.

At the DISKPART prompt, type select volume <volumenumber>. This selects the basic volume volumenumber that you want to extend into contiguous, empty space on the same disk.

At the DISKPART prompt, type extend [size=<size>]. This extends the selected volume by size megabytes (MB).

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.

  3. Extending partitions

For some reason there's a 5gb unallocated space on my Velociraptor and I can't seem to extend it on the primary partition. And I thought disk management was a phail.
