  1. How do I figure out what is causing sporadic phantom key-presses?

For the last few months, I've been having an issue with my PC where it will occasionally act as if the control, shift or ALT GR key or some combination of these are being pressed. Nothing other than pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL key seems to be able to unstick them. Due to this issue being seemingly random, it is hard to test for what is causing it. What I think I need to find the cause of this, would be some kind of a key-logger that could also tell me which device/program is responsible for the press. I am unsure if anything like this exists. Any help is appreciated.

    :)

  2. Phantom Key Presses

Right, I'm getting pretty pissed off with Windows 10 now, and this issue has been plaguing me for a while.

I am am having phantom key presses (the right arrow key to be exact) which is disabling from using Search, Films and TV, and basically any WINDOWS application within my laptop. This issue does not extend to any non-Windows applications such a Chrome, Opera GX, or any games. The issue will magically disappear if the laptop is rebooted and will come back usually around a day later, or sooner. It's random. I am not dealing with having to reset my laptop every time this happens (in other words, when Windows decides to go full retard, as I should not HAVE to).

What apps/functions this issue is messing about with:

    • File Explorer. The Quick Access Search function will not work, similarly to how the Search function on the taskbar doesn't.
    • Films and TV.
    • Search Bar (as mentioned above, it will flash for not even a second, before vanishing until pressed again).
What I have tried to fix this stupid issue:

    • Fully resetting the laptop (Remove Everything option).
    • All of the relevant CHKDSK and sfc /scannow commands.
    • Uninstalling the Keyboard through Device Manager and rebooting.
    • Using the Keyboard Troubleshooter (however, as per the usual from Microsoft products, the Troubleshooter is f****** useless, and offered no help whatsoever, saying it didn't need to be ran).
    • Taking apart the entire laptop and cleaning any debris from under the keys.
My laptop is running all updated Drivers and is updated to the most current available version of Windows 10 Home.

I have installed a Third-Party Program called Carnac, to see what keys are apparently being pressed, and the results have come back as:

    XButton1, Oemtilde

    MButton, Oemtilde

    XButton2, Oemtilde

Now, MButton is showing as I was clicking the Search Bar to test. That I was expecting. I was not, however, expecting XButton1, 2 and Oemtilde. Now, I know what the Tilde key is, but what in the hell are XButtons 1 and 2?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  3. Hyphen key, and Alt code sporadically stop working.

    Hi Rogue,

We would appreciate for the troubleshooting steps that you have tried.

    • Have you installed the latest keyboard driver from the computer manufacturer’s website?

I suggest you to use the on-screen keyboard and check if the same issue persists:

    • Press Windows + R keys together.

    • Type “osk” and hit enter.
    Hope this information helps.

    Thank you.

How do I figure out what is causing sporadic phantom key-presses?

    Booting without press any key

@dhievm go ahead and list the model number that gives exact specs/info.

Does it stop right at the Toshiba logo and sit there? Will it sit forever til you press a key, or will it eventually work after so long?
