    How do I find out my Bitlocker recovery key if I've never set one up or been told what it is?


    So for starters I have a Lenovo Yoga 920 running windows 10. About 30 minutes ago I installed one of Lenovos little system updates. Not a windows 10 update but an actual Lenovo system update. I've been getting updates like that since I bought this laptop brand new a year or two ago. Now when I turn on my PC it bring me to a Bitlocker page and says I need a recovery key. Is there any way around this or am I shit out of luck? I honestly had no idea what Bitlocker was until now and from what I've read it's one of windows programs. I still have all the original paperwork for this laptop and I've yet to find any recovery key. Other sources say I should be able to find it on a USB drive but my PC never came with one. Has anyone else had this problem? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this. I have no idea where I should really go for help.

    asking for BitLocker recovery which I never set up

    I got a new Dell windows 10 laptop, and today when I started it, it said it was finishing updates. Then once finished, it is asked for the BitLocker recovery key and will not go any further. I never set one up. (My Microsoft account (hotmail login) is
    also now locked for 30 days from looking up more info about my recovery key because I just made the mistake of adding my cell phone number as part of my account and msft says they need to lock it for 30 days for security.)

    I see a long list of troubleshooting steps in another thread that includes booting from a USB stick which I do not own. It really seems unacceptable that a user should have to do all these steps without help from Microsoft. I expect to be able to turn
    on a laptop and use it, not spend all day on diagnostics. I also want to understand WHY this is happening, not just be given a long list of steps that may or may not work. And, HOW To contact a real person to help.

    For further clarity on the issue and to guide you accordingly, respond to the questions listed below:



    1. Since when are you facing this issue?
    2. Are you aware of any changes being made to the PC?
    3. Which version of Windows is installed on the PC?
    4. What is the make and model of the PC?


    This issue can be caused if a BIOS/firmware update has been pushed to your PC either through Windows Updates or any other OEM media update.



    If you have set up the Bitlocker on your PC, I suggest you to look for the recovery key on your Microsoft account. Also, you can refer the article
