  1. How do I find out what happens internally when you click an app shortcut, like calculator...

I dont know if the title really explains my question, but I will elavorate on this:

So, in the start menu you may have shortcuts like steam or discord, and if you right click on them > go to file location, it will take you to the start menu folder where all the shorcuts are stored, thats all good until you want to do it with an internal app, like the calculator, or mail, or alarms, they are not like your average programs, sure they are .exe files, but you can't open those, you can only open the calculator by clicking the shortcut.

so here's my question, what is going on behind the scenes? How do they execute?

I tried Process explorer and found out it's a command line fot the calculator app, but there is something more, there seems to be a program called winnit.exe that starts and controls services.exe, at the same time this one controls svchost.exe and this one controls all the apps, like the start menu, cortana, alarms, settings and more.

I searched all over the internet and couldn't find anything useful, so what is going on? what is windows hidding from me and why? I just need to know how to execute those apps from rainmeter or using my own shortcuts.

Any help is useful, please feel free to redirect me to forums, wiki pages, documentation, reddit posts, programs, anything that will help me solve this mistery, I'm loosing sleep over this.

sorry for the long post, and also sorry for any spelling mistakes, please correct my english if i did something wrong as it's not my first language.

    Thanks in advance

How do I find out what happens internally when you click an app shortcut, like calculator...

    calculator shortcut key

    Hi Judy,

Click your Start Button, then just type calculator

In the resulting list, right click the Calculator App and choose 'Pint to Start'

Then simply drag the new tile from your Start Menu onto your Desktop to create a Desktop Shortcut

You can then if you wish delete that new tile on your Start Menu for the Calculator

    That's It!
