  1. How do I find & solve the cause of MalwareBytes' impact on my Ham Radio apps ? (No, they...

    BACKGROUND

Unknown gremlins were impacting the response of my 3rdParty Ham Radio apps, slowing down look-ups to a crawl.

MalwareBytes' Tech. Support & MalwareBytes' development engineers were directly involved, having me create custom logs and sending them for analysis. They could find no reason that MB was slowing down my Apps.

After trying many ideas from Community people (Thank you all !), I decided I had to get a clean O/S.

Suspecting that my Windows 10 had become "corrupted," I did a Re-Install of the O/S. I received excellent guidance from DavidM121 in the Community during a very long and detailed process.

AFTER THE RE-INSTALL OF WINDOWS 10

I did a careful and complete Recovery, using my nightly Back-ups. My PC is operating very well again.

Everything was restored in my PC EXCEPT for MalwareBytes - my strategic decision. I did some baseline performance testing of the Ham Radio Apps., now with a clean Windows 10 environment, and NO MalwareBytes.

Holy Cow ! I'm now getting "nearly instantaneous" responses on each Look-up VS .. taking 4--> 8 seconds before, with "corrupt" Windows 10 & MalwareBytes.

So the "response" problem was solved via the Re-Install. Next, I downloaded and installed MalwareBytes, to see its impact.

And I did the same Look-up testing in the Ham Radio apps. VERY DISAPPOINTED, to see that the response time now is just as bad as it was before I did the Re-Install of Windows 10.

With only limited faith in MalwareBytes' capability now.........is there someone in the Community that can help me to try to learn what exactly is happening when I initiate a Lookup ? Is there a way to set up an Event Log, so we can see each instruction of the affected apps....and identity what may be causing this major delay in how the anti-malware software is impacting the performance of a simple Lookup.

The ON or OFF of MalwareBytes' Real-time Protection has no impact. The Look-ups in the Ham Radio apps. are slow in either mode.

Can someone in The Community help me on this ?

    Regards,

    Gary

    :)

  2. How to find "hidden" Start-up apps that are slowing down my Ham Radio applications

    I de-installed MalwareBytes.

And then tried the Look-up tests again, using the Ham Radio Apps.

Very fast response, filling in data on 4 different windows, in 4-5 seconds. Not 15 seconds w/MalwareBytes installed.

I'm working with the MalwareBytes Support guys, to try to find out what's happening...

  3. How to log real-time processes, to find out what's slowing down an App

THE PROBLEM: Recent Windows 10 Updates have impacted the performance of 3rd Party Ham Radio Applications.

    Been running the
    www.dxlabsuite.com
software for many years, without problems.
Thousands of other “hams” use the same software.

THE IMPACT: When I try to do a simple LOOKUP or a CLEAR, to find ham radio operator info, location, etc.…Execution took only 1-3 seconds.
Now it takes 8-15 seconds….and makes the software useless in contests and other quick radio activities.

DONE SO FAR: Using Re-Boot with Safe Networking, we have ruled out any impact from software at Start-up.

And with extraordinary support from Malwarebytes (MB), we have ruled out any malware in the PC, and also ruled out any “rogue software” in the MB application.
Numerous custom logs were created for the MB QC and development team, and they found no cause coming from their product.

NEXT STEPS: Using MSCONFIG’s Performance Monitor & Resource Monitor, I will try to set up some logging, so I can try to capture and understand what’s happening immediately after I click-on LOOKUP.
And maybe identify the culprit. Whenever the delay happens for a LOOKUP, Task Manager shows the message:
“DXkeeper not responding”. Is this a clue or useless info?

PLEASE CAN YOU HELP? Is the approach above, the best way to solve this ?
What do YOU recommend on how to proceed?

    Warm regards,

    Gary

How to find "hidden" Start-up apps that are slowing down my Ham Radio applications

Ever since April (Windows 10 Update...?), the response from my Ham Radio Apps (HRAs) has been slowing down.

Previously, I got a fast response doing data Look-ups, typically in 2-3 seconds. But now, those same Look-ups take 10-15 seconds.

I saw in Task Manager's Start-up tab, there were 11 software items shown.

I booted in Safe Mode with Networking, and disabled each app., 1-at-1-time, re-booting each time. And I'd do Look-ups in the HRAs, recording the performance. 5 had NO impact; 6 had major impact.

Then I booted "normally" and I disabled ALL 11 Start-up software items. Ad still..the HRAs were very slow, 10-15 seconds for any Look-up.

So None of the 11 were actually causing my performance degradation.

Next, I plan to use AutoRun, a 3rd Party Utility that shows me ALL the Hidden start-up software items that might be the "culprit".

Has someone out there used AutoRun for this purpose ?

Got any advice or tricks about using AutoRun to most easily Identify the problem-causing software ?
