Windows 10: How do I fix a very quiet, distant sounding mic?

Today I was using Skype, and one of the people I was talking with joked about voice changers, so I decided to download one. About 3 programs later, and no satisfactory voice changer, all of the sudden my microphone is incredibly weak unless put right up to my mouth. This is the case for both the on-board mic, and one connected via 3.5 mm jack. So after I uninstalled all the programs, the issue still persisted. I believe this was caused by the Clownfish Voice changer but I am not for sure.

I have done audio driver updates, reinstalls, and I have even reset my computer using the windows keep your files setting, but I still have the problem. I have the mic enabled and set as my default device and I have used both windows sound drivers and realtek ones, as well as updating the chipset drivers. None of this has fixed the issue.

I have a MSI GV62 8RE, thanks for any help.

The next step is what I suggested originally. Try it in a friend's PC or take it to Best Buy and ask them to try it one of their PC's. Have to confirm the mic is working OK.

 

Mic quiet - This is silly

I have looked through numerous posts on this site and no one has a solution. Honestly I have no idea why I expect any different results.

Anyways my Mic is too quiet, no one can hear me. They can if I yell, and I mean yell. Like the yell you got when your parents were pissed, blood vessels bursting yell. But even then it's still quiet.

That last update caused this. Before it worked fine.

I reformatted and now the problem persists.

This is obviously Microsoft's fault, have they found a fix yet?

 

Headset mic not working

This might occur when some of the mic setting got corrupted.

I would suggest you to try running Recording audio troubleshooter.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the Search area on the taskbar and select
  Troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Select Hardware and Sound.
  
• 
  Select Recording Audio under
  Sound and follow the on screen.
