Windows 10: How do I fix both of my displays going black when opening a fullscreen application in one...

Whenever I open a fullscreen game like Overwatch 2, Fortnite, or Team Fortress 2, both of my two displays go black and then go back to normal after a second or two. When I close out of the fullscreen game or minimize it, my main display also goes black for a second or two. I think it might be due to my primary monitor being 144hz while my side monitor is 60hz, as it didn't change until I went into my display settings to make my main one 144hz. I have a GTX 1650 Super, my other hypothesis is it's overloading my GPU for a second and causing no render to occur. Any more professional opinions than

Black screen when opening / closing certain fullscreen apps

I recently got a new monitor, and whenever I open or tab out of certain fullscreen apps, the screen goes black for a few seconds.

It doesn't happen to every app in fullscreen. For example, when opening / closing minecraft, the screen does go black, but when I open a modded minecraft instance through an IDE, the screen doesn't go black when opening / closing minecraft.

The only way I've found to stop the black screen is setting my monitor to 60Hz, which I'm not going to do as one of the reasons I bought it is for its higher refresh rate.

 

Is there anyway to open fullscreen windows by default?


Right click the application shortcut, select Properties. Select the Shortcut tab and choose how you want to open the application:

• Normal window = Opens the application window in same size it was when last time closed, full screen only if the application was last closed when full screen
• Minimized = Opens the application but minimizes it to taskbar without showing the application window on desktop
• Maximized = Opens the application window always maximized, regardless if it was windowed or full screen when last time closed

 

Is there anyway to open fullscreen windows by default?

Kari - Do you have to do that for every shortcut? I did it and most of my windows still aren't opening as Maximized... *Sad
