DNS server issues w/ only one Wifi network

I've had issues accessing the internet for a while now, I've tried many steps of troubleshooting but none have worked and I'm not sure how to proceed.

My PC can connect to my home's Wifi network, but the network shows "No internet access". This Wifi network has several other devices connected to it (phones, my laptop, smart TV) that have no trouble accessing the internet -- which would make me think that the problem lies with my PC.

I tried connecting to my phone's hotspot to test if the same error occurs; my PC has no issues with internet access via the hotspot (connecting to the hotspot via Wifi, so same adapter and driver) -- which makes me think that the problem lies with my router and modem, except for the fact that none of my other devices are having issues.

When I run the Windows networking troubleshooter, it returns an error stating that the DNS server is not responding. Based on this I've tried the following troubleshooting steps with no success:

    • Forgetting the Wifi network and reconnecting
    • Resetting network settings
    • Changing IPv4 DNS server addresses to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    • Disabling IPv6
    • Uninstalling, then reinstalling drivers
    • Manually updating drivers
    • Disabling antivirus
    • Using command prompt to reset IP and clear DNS cache
    • Restarting my modem
How should I approach fixing this issue? I'm becoming quite frustrated.

Small business Wifi Network for 20-30 Devices?

I have been looking at this exact problem myself with the same range of numbers. I've found there are a wide range of choices and performance of the network very much depends on how much money you're willing to put into it.

Our wifi consisted of a single modem/router and the devices were only requesting internet access, the problem we were getting was either devices getting dropped off the network or just very little internet access at all when it was connected. From doing some studying I concluded that i could improve the performance by separating the roles, having a modem dealing with the connection to the outside world and DHCP and having a more powerful router handle the wireless devices (the router I was looking at was the model down from your suggested one, the Asus RT-N66U), you could probably go one further and add a low spec'd server box dealing with DHCP, DNS, etc. This was the cheapest option but left no real room for scaling up devices.

The other was as has been suggested, getting a wireless controller/gateway with multiple access points, obviously the cost scales higher but you also increase the overall capacity of the network with good performance, and usually with a good controller you can further add more access points to increase range/devices.

I think in this case it's very much you get what you pay for.

    dns probe finished no internet

    Hi Oxide,

After some trial-and-error testing of all suggested fixes, which I found over the internet, here’re what worked for me to solve "DNS Probe Finished No Internet" issue and might work for you as well.

Method 1: Change Default DNS Address to Open DNS

Here all you have to do is change your default automatically obtained DNS server addresses to open DNS or Google DNS. To do this, follow below mentioned steps:

    Step 1:
Right click on Network icon located in Windows Task Bar Menu.

    Step 2:
Click on ‘Open Network and Sharing Center.’

    Step 3:
Click on Local Area Connection with whom who are presently connected and click onProperties.

    Step 4:
Select ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)’ and click on Properties.

    Step 5:
Now in newly opened windows, select the radio button that reads ‘Use the following DNS server address:’

    Step 6:
Now in the ‘Preferred DNS Server’ box type in 208.67.222.222 and in ‘Alternate DNS Server’ type in 208.67.220.220.

    Step 7:
Now check the box that says ‘Validate settings upon exit’ and then click on OK. That’s it.
