Windows 10: How do I fix MARS backup to Azure from hanging forever when running from the windows 10...

I'm using the Microsoft Azure Backup MARS agent to backup on premise Windows servers and laptops. It works fine on my server. On the Windows 10 laptops, the scheduled job hangs forever. I found a discussion about this on: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/631093/ms-azure-recovery-services-agent-mars-scheduledThis Q&A webpage says the arguments for the PowerShell command in the scheduler is missing a closing quote at the end. Also, the task needs to run as 'Windows 10' rather than the default of Windows Vista.I tried making these two changes, but the scheduled is still

Windows Update suddenly hangs?

Windows Update is suddenly hanging for some reason... I went and downloaded and installed the first bunch of updates, restarted when asked, and now when I go back to windows update I just get the window with a white box forever. Reboot and it still does it. This happens to be on my main machine, running windows 7.

I've also noticed when I reboot it says configuring windows update, step 3 of 3, 47%. Maybe it somehow skipped something and is screwed forever?

 

MARS Agent won't install on windows 10 2004

Hi,

trying to install MARS agent to backup my workstation to Azure.

With previous win 10 builds, it has worked, but with a laptop now running the latest 2004 version, I cannot install the MARS agent.

Firstly, the installer says I'm not connected to Internet (I am). Skipping this, secondly, the installer says I do not have powershell, which I have. Skipping this, the installer fails with "an unknown error during installation of powershell"

How to fix?

 

Unable to install applications, Disk Management hangs connecting to Virtual Disk Service, shutdown hangs

So I have a mess of problems, although I suspect they all stem from one thing. The issues I'm facing with Windows 10 Pro 20H2 are:

1. Application installers hang forever
   
2. Going to Disk Management hangs connecting to the Virtual Disk Service
   
3. When I try to restart my computer, it just hangs with the rotating dots saying restarting
   
4. Whenever I try to do some things with disks, like writing an image file to a USB drive, it hangs
   
5. Trying to select a backup drive for a Windows 7 style backup, it hangs
   

So it seems tied into a problem with disk drives and likely the Virtual Disk Service and/or the Volume Shadow Copy Service. I've tried the various suggestions related to startup settings for VDS and VSCS, they both end up in a running state.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
