How do I fix my 'downloads' after it accidentally merged with 'user' file?

Hello! I have an urgent issue, I wanted to keep my C: drive free of downloaded files since windows is on it and I don't want that drive to get "clogged" up by files. In properties I changed my 'downloads' file location to D:, and it accidentally merged with my 'user' file. Now when I download something it doesn't do it automatically as it's supposed to, but opens my files for me to find a location for it. I've restored my 'downloads' file in C: and it's empty, but my actual downloads are still merged with my 'user' file in D:. Please help!

    :)

  2. Fix accidentally merged user profile folder with library (downloads)

I was moving some files around on my hard drive and I accidentally merged my User folder with my Downloads folder. So in my C:\User directory instead of seeing C:\Users\MyName I see C:\Users\Downloads. Is there a way to fix this using PowerShell or Registry
Edit? Below is what it looks like.

  3. I accidentally merged my downloads folder and Onedrive folder

    Hi,

Download and run "fix_downloads_path.reg" registry file from here:

    Microsoft OneDrive

Once done, log off and log back in for the changes to apply.

The registry file fixes the User Shell Folders path for "Downloads" folder.

To fix it manually, see Method 2 in the link Accidentally Merged Shell Folders

Accidentally merged User and Documents folders

    Hello,

I was moving some files around on my hard drive and I accidentally merged my User folder with my Documents folder. So in my C:\User directory instead of seeing C:\Users\MyName I see C:\Users\Documents. Seen below:

I have looked through a few different forums on how to fix my mistake, but I am not 100% sure on how to fix it. I believe that I need to make a change in the registry because the data field for "Personal" is %USERPROFILE% and not %USERPROFILE%\Documents.

Can anyone help me with some steps that I can follow so I can resolve my mistake? I don't want to mess up the registry and hurt my machine. Thanks in advance!
