Windows 10: How do I fix my temporary account "We can't sign in to your account" issue?

Hello,I am my wits end after trying endless solutions for hours, so I am in great need of any help. This is my second time trying to write this post, so apologies for any missed details and/or typos. I'm also trying to keep this to the point, so sorry if I come across as blunt. Background info: Windows 11Laptop: Acer Swift 3 SF314-52-58TX if relevant One local account Issue: "We can't sign in to your account" message / temporary profile created after I performed a battery replacement. When I rebooted my laptop, it appears that there was some sort of update ? that occurred on the Acer homep

HELP! Signed in with a temporary account - not the usual problem


Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone can help with this. My Windows 10 PC had a problem today where it couldn't find the boot drive. I replaced the SATA cable and it solved the problem, but when Windows 10 started back up it logged me in and gave the

message. I've googled this error and found this tutorial on how to fix it but the first step is to back up files and folders from C:\Users\(problem profile).

However, this folder no longer exists on my HDD. If I look at the profile registry key, it's pointing at where the folder should be, but the folder is gone. It's not hidden, I have hidden files viewable, it's just gone.

It was my profile, it was an administrator account. The rest of the family's profiles and files are intact, but mine are gone.

To add insult to injury, I tried a system restore from an automatic point taken at lunchtime today, but the process fails with this error:

We can't sign into your account: temporary account


Hi all, I'm on Windows 10 HOME 21H2 with a Local Account, and when I sign in it comes with the above error. I've tried booting in safe mode to that account and all of my preferences and files are there. But when I restart (twice) it has signed me into the temporary account when not in safe mode. I hope you can help, - *Smile I managed to fix it. The fix is simple, just press Win + R, type Regedit, click YES and navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList then delete any folder with a key named 'ProfileImagePath': Value TEMP something. Then, on the one with 'ProfileImagePath's value being your username, delete .bak of the end of the folder by renaming it.
