Windows 10: How do I fix output audio when it says it is working in the system?

My audio has started to not work even though everything in the system says that it is fine. It just does not play externally. Is there anything I can do? I am unsure if maybe I just need to replace the speakers but this happened all very suddenly and without warning. Does anyone have a solution?

My surface pro seven suddenly does not have sound. It says there is no audio output driver. I talked to someone at microsoft and they had me uninstall and reinstall updates. I cannot reinstall an audio driver because the device manager list of devices does
not even show sound as an option anymore. The rep I talked to finally said he had no more suggestions.

I am not sure how to fix this or why it happened.

Regarding "No Audio Output Device..."

Okay, that did not work. I downloaded the .exe file, ran it, and it said it was installed. After a restart, Windows 10 still says "No Audio Output Device is installed."

I am also running Windows 10 on a Dell Precision 3630 tower and there is a Device Manager listing for Sound, video, and game controllers and opening that I find two items: Intel Display Audio and Realtek Audio. There is also High Definition Audio Controller listed under System devices.

On my Precision M6800 there is only the High Definition Audio Controller is listed under System Devices. This seems to be the problem, but what is the fix?
