Windows 10: How do I fix: sorry photos cant open the file because the format is currently unsupported...

I am trying to import pictures from my camera - not RAW on to my new laptop, Windows 11. Getting the error message 'sorry photos can't open the file because the format is currently unsupported or the file is corrupted'. Have tried 'Reset' and 'Repair' on the Settings tab under Apps - Photos - Advanced Options but neither worked. Hesitant to try anything out of S mode given I then can't get back in to S mode if it doesn't work. Can anyone help?

Why Unsupported format files are opening with chinese format in notepad

Just wanted to know why if we open the unsupported format files are getting opened in Chinese format in notepad, Any reason for that ?

 

Old Mac formatted photo files need to be opened on my PC.

The files themselves are jpeg, tiff, or psd, but the external drive itself was formatted for Mac. When I set up the external drive it asked whether
to format for Mac or PC. When I attach the External Drive to my PC, the icons for the files showed up on the screen but when I click to open the file
is "not readable". When I took it to a shop, the guy saw the icons on the PC screen and assumed it was ok I guess.

 

Windows 10 photo viewer not opening some photos

I took 201 pictures in JPEG format. I transferred them from a portable hard drive to my laptop computer. When I tried to view them using Windows phot viewer 16 of the pictures did not open and I got a message that they were in an un supported format or
that I didn't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer. I tried your suggestions and got the same results - not able to view - unsupported format etc.

Today I found the solution - I opened the photos on my portable hard- drive and also in the Photo Viewer window - side by side - I dragged the photos from my hard-drive over to the open Photo Viewer window. Now all the pictures open. Apparently, during the
transfer, some of the information for those 16 pictures was lost.
