  1. How do I fix the error I get when I try to open applications?

I can not open my applications that I have downloaded nor can I even open settings. I can only open google Chrome and file explorer. I get the error code HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location. I have no idea how to fix it and the forums online seem to be on the right track but don't seem to work for me. I can share a lot more information than this but hopefully this can help get the picture.

    :)

    Windows fails to open applications

    Hi,

Once I have several applications open Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 refuses to open further application. I have heavy-weight applications like Delphi and Eclipse open, but the OS has coped with this in the past.

No error messages are reported by the application I am attempting to open, and there are no messages in the event viewer. What is really strange is that once the OS gets itself into this state, it appears that the OS can't allocate enough memory to perform simple API calls. If I go into an application that is already open and try to open the file menu, or right click on the taskbar to open the context menu, nothing happens.

If I close a few applications, then the problem goes away. The Task Manager performance tab indicates that I still have ~1Gb of physical memory available.

I think this could be caused by:

    - A memory module is damaged. My memory is comprised of 1x1Gb modules. When the system attempts to allocate memory in the second module, it is unable to. I think this is a bit of a long-shot because I wouldn't expect my PC to boot if a memory module was playing-up

    - I've installed something that has put something malicious on my PC. The only things I've installed recently are PRGrep and WinGrep, but unfortunately I didn't make a system restore point, and windows hasn't retained those old restore points. However a full Sophos scan doesn't show-up anything.

Any suggestions on how to diagnose/fix this welcome because I'm baffled as to what is going on.

    Thanks,

    Frank.

Fixing default application to "Open With"

So what is shown in your Context menu when you right-click on a PDF file & hover over Open with?
How do I fix the error I get when I try to open applications? 374370d1662085153t-fixing-default-application-open-context-menu-open-.png
And if you then select Choose another app? Is Adobe Acrobat available for selection & is the Always use this app checkbox now displayed?

And, if your Adobe Acrobat is not offered in the list, is it then shown if you scroll to the bottom of its offered list & select More apps? And, if not, can you select it by scrolling to the bottom of that list & selecting Look for another app on this PC? I've never been in this position but perhaps setting it this way might fix the lack of its being named in the properties dialog you posted. Denis

    Windows Application Error 0xc0000022

    Hello Jon,

A corrupted system file is one of the possible reasons why you get this Windows application error when attempting to open a PDF file. Given that, we highly suggest performing the following methods to isolate and troubleshoot this issue.

    Method 1: Run DISM

The DISM may help you to fix some Windows corruption errors. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Right-click the Start Menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Run this command: DISM.EXE /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • If the operation is completed successfully, close the command prompt and check if your issue has been fixed.

Method 2: Run System File Checker

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Right-click the Start Menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Run this command: SFC /scannow
    • This may take several minutes to finish. If Command Prompt shows
Verification 100% complete, close the command prompt and check if your issue has been fixed.
