Windows 10: HOW DO I FIX THE ICON ON MY WINDOWS 11 LAPTOP SO THAT I CAN ADJUST THE VOLUME OF MY SPEAKERS

THE ICON TO CONTROL THE VOLUME ON MY WINDOWS 11 LAPTOP IS NOT WORKING. HOW DO I FIX IT?

Speaker Shortcut Icon Won't Adjust Volume

The speaker shortcut icon was working fine yesterday, today if you click on the icon nothing happens. The picture doesn't change to give you options of sliding to adjust your volume. All the other icons seem to be working just fine. I didn't purposely make
any changes to any program or my computer that I am aware of. Now the only way to adjust the volume is to adjust from the control panel volume mixer Speaker/Headphone Realtek High Definition Audio which is more cumbersome.

Is There a Way to Fix the Volume Adjustement procedure that Windows 11 Broke?





What I mean is that this is the dialog that opens when I click on the speaker Icon. I already deleted several more clutter items, but the "now playing" thing from Google Chrome is impossible to get rid of. Previously, there was nothing but the volume slider when you clicked on the speaker icon.

Now, from this point in the older versions of Windows, you could always simply use the mouse wheel to adjust volume. Left click, volume up or down with mouse wheel., done. No further actions were necesary.

With Windows 11, I have to left click the speaker icon and the above dialog appears, but the mouse wheel does not work for volume control anymore. If you want to control the volume, you have to then left-click somewhere on this slider icon. When you do so, it adjusts the volume to the level corresponding with the position at which you clicked on that icon. If for instance, I were to click where the red arrow is, the volume would more than double from my previous position and be extremely loud. That means I have to take my eyes off of whatever I am watching for a longer time, click somewhere in the acceptable range of volume levels over to the left side, then I can finally use my mouse wheel to fine tune from there.

Basically there are now three steps where formerly there were two, and the new additional step is very fiddly, attention demanding, and easy to screw up.

 

Is There a Way to Fix the Volume Adjustement procedure that Windows 11 Broke?

I just switched to Windows 11 today, and while some of my minor irritations with it are likely down to familiarization, there is one GLARING issue that I will never be able to get over, and will only become more irritating with time.

Why in the world to I have to click on the speaker icon, then visually find the slider and click on it with my mouse under threat of being blasted out of the room by volume if I click in the wrong spot, and only then am I allowed to adjust the volume with the mouse wheel? This is far and away worse than Windows 10 and all previous versions. To be honest, this is a completely unacceptable solution, and I would like to return it to the style of all previous versions of Windows in my experience. If there is no way to fix it, I will be switching back to Windows 10 ASAP.

I use that volume adjustment dozens, sometimes hundreds of times per day, and my PC speaker's volume buttons are not phycially accesible as an alternative as they sit under my monitors with the buttons unreachable. On my home theather PC, the machine is on the other side of the room and the master volume adjuster is my main method to control of the stereo volume, so I most definately will not be switching to Windows 11 until this is rectified. Lord knows every single YouTube video ever made has a completely different volume level than the one you just played.

I don't want to see what's playing when pulling up the volume adjuster,and I don't want to have to keep looking over there all the time. I just want to adjust the volume, nothing less, nothing more, and I have no idea why anyone would think this needed "fixed".
