Windows 10: How do I fix the issue of my HDMI port, brightness, and power on my Laptop? Why did this...

I have a Windows 11 laptop and lately I have been using my HDMI port everyday to watch my shows on my TV but yesterday I took it out again after watching something as usual. And when I came back to try and watch something later in the day, the HDMI port in my laptop was no longer working! It will not display on my TV. Also, when I turned on my laptop I could not type in my pin mouse would not click, I had to shut it down and when I turned it back on it was loading saying it was trying to repair the system. But I did not drop it or anything. So I do not know if when I took out the HDMI cord

Brightness issues

There is a possibility that this issue might have occurred due to incompatible or corrupt display drivers or the brightness settings are not correct in the system.

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

To check for the brightness settings, please follow the steps given below and check if it helps.

• 
  Press “Windows + C” keys on the keyboard.
  
• 
  In the search box, type
  Power Options.
  
• 
  Click on Power options, and under any plan, click
  Change plan settings.
  
• 
  Click Change advanced power settings.
  
• 
  In the list, expand Display, and then expand
  Enable adaptive brightness.
  
• 
  To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is running on battery power, click
  On battery, and then, in the list, click On or
  Off.
  
• 
  To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is plugged into an outlet, click
  Plugged in, and then, in the list, click On or
  Off.
  
• 
  Click Apply. Click
  OK.
  

If the issue persists, follow method 2

Method 2:

Step 1:
Update the Display driver.

Please follow the steps given below to update the display driver.

• 
  Press Windows key + X when you are at desktop.
  
• 
  Select Device Manager.
  
• 
  Expand Display adapters.
  
• 
  Right-click the display driver and click
  Update Driver Software.
  
• 
  Select Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software.
  

Step 2:

Check if there are any updates for display drivers available in Optional Updates; this might fix the issue. Refer to the following steps.

• 
  At the Start screen, type Windows Update.
  
• 
  Click or tap Settings on the right side of the screen, and then select Install optional updates from the left results.
  
• 
  When the Windows Update control panel opens, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates.

The above steps holds good for Windows 10 as well.

HDMI port not installed. Recent updates may be the problem.

Could you please help me with the below information:

1. What is the make and model of the computer?
   
2. Which version of Windows you are using on both the computers? (To check, type: winver in start menu and hit enter.)
   
3. Do you see any error messages in device manager after connecting the HDMI cable?
   

This might have occurred due to some hardware conflicts or driver incompatibility issues. This happens if monitor isn’t getting any input from the currently selected source. To resolve this issue, I would suggest you to follow the
steps mentioned below.

Method 1: Update drivers.

1. Make sure that the cable are connected with correct ends, output port of the laptop and the input port of the TV/External
monitor are connected to the right port.

2. While the cable is connected
open device manager. The problem may occur by the faulty chipset drivers and graphics drivers. Try to update the drivers and check for the issue.

• • Press windows and R key together at the keyboard and type:
    devmgmt.msc
    
  • If you see any display drivers with yellow exclamation sign,
    Update the drivers.
    
  • Reboot the computer once and check.
    

Method 2: Change display settings.

1. Press Windows and P key on your keyboard together. You will see a Project option on the right side of the screen.
2. Select Duplicate or Extend (depends on your requirement) and check.
3. If it didn’t work, try to
   Change screen resolution and try step 1 and 2
   again.

Method 3: Disconnect and reconnect.

1. Unplug all the TV/monitor cables from the HDMI port.
   
2. Unplug the power cable of external monitor or TV for some time.
   
3. Plug the power cable back to the computer.
   
4. Plug in all the HDMI cables to the computer /TV.
   
5. Turn on the device and try Method 2.

Connecting laptop running windows 10 to hdtv with hdmi

I'm not very tech savvy.

• I know how to run the HDMI cable between laptop and tv.
• I know how to set my tv to use correct HDMI port.

What I need to know is how I tell my laptop to recognize my tv and configure it to use my tv as a monitor.

Anyone that can tell me step by step how to do this in windows 10?

Thanks for all the help. Hooked up the HDMI cable, plugged tv back in, started laptop up, switched the tv to correct HDMI port and viola...there was my laptop start screen on my tv! Didn't have to do anything but make a few display
adjustments!
