Windows 10: How do I fix the start menu, the search bar and the setting application?

Just a few hours ago I've reset my pc which I do quite often however after having done it I've come across something that never happened to me before... after start up I noticed that the start menu, the settings and the search bar weren't working at all. Everything else works just fine but no matter what way I'm trying to open these nothing happens. Can anyone help me out with this?

Do you have "All apps" listed after you click on the start button ?





Then a list of apps ?

You need to go one step further...

Settings >Personalization > Start, then click as shown by the RED square...

Questions that might be relevant:

• If you have the bug: did you clean install, or upgrade? (I clean installed)
• During the installation, did you disable all the calling-home hoo-haa? What about Cortana? (I disabled all of it)

Let's narrow this sucker down. Perhaps we can fix it!

EDIT: Nushydude found a possible fix here. Seems like a lengthy process, but worth trying!

UPDATE: re-indexing everything fixed it for me. Other changes, may or may not be related: 1. The "we're getting search ready..." message is now gone / 2. I completely hid the search button from the task bar.
