How do I force the Photos app to compelte its search indexing?

I read of others wishing to stop Photos app hogging resources and find I wish for the opposite.

I use the photos app and on occasion the progress bar for the search indexer comes up and says how much progress it has left. I recently added a large quantity of files the indexer is now trying to progress. The index bar appears sometimes when I open the app and not others and it doesn't appears to be progressing.

Is there a way for force the indexing process or clear out what could be preventing it from moving without restarting all the files?

    :)

    Search in Photos app

    Hi,

I transferred all my photos to OneDrive and changed the system pictures folder to the pictures folder in OneDrive.

I made sure the folder is listed in the Photos app, but all the photos disappeared from the Photos app. I have waited for 40 minutes hoping it will be appear - but nothing.

Finally it came back when I checked the option to show online files from OneDrive. It is a bad solution because there are two options: one - showing photos from all OneDrive, two - showing only photos from the pictures folder in OneDrive.

The pictures folder of OneDrive is not the folder I'm using (still showing nothing), and showing all photos is not what I want.

Also, working "online" while all the photos are located locally on my computer - is too slow and very unnecessary. I couldn't even right-click on a photo and open file location (because it's on OneDrive).

Although, after I unchecked the option to show online files from OneDrive, I saw all my photos from the right folders as listet on the app settings (and could right-click to show folder location), so now it's ok.

The problem now is that in-app search is not working anymore. It doesn't show indexing progress, doesn't suggest face tagging and all functionality of search.

I tried to restart search service, to rebuild index, fix the app in windows settings, reset the app and reboot computer, but nothing helped.

Is there any way to force and restart the app indexing?

    Thanks!

    Windows 10 indexing / search

    Hi Erik,

System conflict is one of the possible reasons why the index built will not function properly. We suggest running the Search and Indexing troubleshooter by following these steps to resolve your issue:

    • Open Control Panel.
    • In the search box, type troubleshooting.
    • Click on Troubleshooting.
    • Click on View all.
    • Select Search and Indexing and select the proper scenario that you are experiencing on indexing and click
Next for the troubleshooting to begin.
Update us with the outcome so we can provide you further assistance.

How do I force the Photos app to compelte its search indexing?

Photo app in Windows 10 is extremely slow

Rebuilding the search index in your computer may help speed-up the loading of photos in the app. The search index is like a directory of files and media in your computer. Follow the steps below:

    • Click Start.
    • On the search bar, type Indexing Options, and click on Indexing Options from the results.
    • Click Advanced.
    • Under Troubleshooting, click Rebuild.

We also suggest that you download and install any pending updates that needs to be installed on the computer through Windows Update and check if it helps resolve the issue.

If the issue persists, you may reinstall the Photos app. For steps on how to uninstall and reinstall the Photos app, follow the steps provided by Anil Madishetty on this thread:

Why won't my Photos app load on Windows 10
