Windows 10: How do I force update to Windows 2004?

    How do I force update to Windows 2004?


    My laptop has had version 1909 for an entire year or more now. The May 2020 update never arrived for me and I don't know why. Now, I got a notification that my Windows version is close to not being supported. How do I update to a more recent version without removing my files? Do I even want to? Thanks for those who will answer.

    Change of message on Windows Update as regards 2004

    I would suggest reading the list of Known Issues.

    I was able to force install it in early June, and I tested it for a couple days before rolling back to 1909.

    Microsoft apparently has now decided to block force installs.

    IMO, no.

    I would suggest reading the list of Known Issues.

    There is also a currently running thread here on Windows 10 2004 issues -

    Additionally, there has also been a change in how Microsoft handles attempted forced installs of the ISO on a system that has a block.

    I was able to force install it in early June, and I tested it for a couple days before rolling back to 1909.

    It will now stop the install, tell you your PC is not ready, and gracefully exit the installer.

    So that's a "tell".
