  2. how do i reset a asus laptop to factory settings?

The process of resetting an Asus laptop to factory settings can vary depending on the model and operating system. However, here are the general steps you can follow:

    1. Back up your important files and data to an external hard drive or cloud storage as resetting your laptop to factory settings will erase all data.
    2. Press the "F9" key repeatedly while the Asus laptop is booting up. This will take you to the recovery menu.
    3. Select "Restore factory settings" from the menu.
    4. Follow the prompts to confirm the reset process.
    5. Wait for the reset process to complete, which may take several minutes.
    6. Once the reset is complete, your Asus laptop will be restored to its original factory settings.

  3. Failure to create recovery USB drive in Windows 10 1511 on Asus laptop

I have a new Asus X555L laptop that came with Windows 10 1511 pre-installed. It was *not* upgraded from Win 7 or 8.

I'm trying to create a recovery USB stick and failing. Here's what I'm doing:

    • With *no* USB stick plugged in, I start the Control Panel applet to create the recovery drive.
    • "Backup system files" is ticked
    • The app starts, I see the progress bar marqee running and the disk goes to 100%
    • After 2 or 3 minutes I get "We can't create the recovery drive." and "A problem occurred creating the recovery drive"
It can't be a USB stick issue because I haven't plugged one in yet. This behaviour is hard repeatable.

Nothing in the event log addresses the fail specifically, but I do get event ID 513 from CAPI2, saying "Cryptographic services failed while processing OnIdentity() call in the System Writer object" with error details "AddLegacyDriverFiles: Unable to backup
image of binary Microsoft Link-Layer Discovery Protocol. Acccess is denied". The app does not stop when this message is logged.

There are posts around of lots of sightings of this specific error, and cases where people have fixed it (directory ACL has to allow access to Network Services) and *not* fixed the USB stick creation issue.

This is the first laptop where I've encountered this error.

    Possible factors:

    • All the other machines I've worked on have been HP Pavilion systems, and this is an Asus.
    • Asus have the recovery partition placed between a C: and D: user partition (yuk) and it does *not* have a drive letter. The HP systems all have D: assigned to the recovery partition.
There are no VSS-writing apps like Symantec backup installed. Virus checking is Microsoft Defender.

I can't find any posts that indicate this is a specifically Asus-build issue. There are lots of posts about inability to create recovery media, but no clear solutions.

Anyone got any thoughts? Does the recovery partition *require* a drive letter? Any way of getting debugging information?

    Thanks

    Alan

Guys i am trying to fix my cousins Asus Eee netbook. It has a backup image file that is partitioned on the hard drive but when I go to use it the app will run through a few steps and stop. It is running Vista . Any suggestions?
