Windows 10: How do I gain access to the laptop when the only administrator account has disappeared and...

Hi, My son's laptop has only 2 accounts on it - his, being the administrator and my own. I tried to login to mine, however, whenever I put my pin in an error code comes up stating "The Group Policy Client service failed the sign-in. Access is denied." I click OK and it takes me back to the screen saver. I read online to remedy this there are settings that need to be changed on the administrator account. As I couldn't access mine, I logged into my son's account. However, there was another error message that came up, however, before I could take note of it, or even remember what it said it compl

  Is there any other user account? If yes, is that an admin account?
  

If not, I suggest you to enable the Built-in Administrator Account
and then try to create a new user account with administrator privileges.

Follow the steps to enable the Built-in Administrator Account.

Steps to Enable the Built-in Administrator Account.

• a) Press Windows + X, Select Run.
• b) Type net user administrator /active:yes
• c) Close the elevated command prompt.
• d) The built-in Administrator will now be available to select to sign into.
• e) Restart the system.

Then enter into the administrator account. And try to create new user account.

Try these steps to create a new user account and check if it fixes the issue. Refer to the steps below to create a new User Account:

• Go to Settings.
• Choose Accounts and then select Other User Accounts towards the left.
• Select Add an Account.
• Enter a user name and hit next.
• Click on Finish.
• Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.
• Check if issue persists.

Once you create the new administrator user account try to disable
Built-in Administrator Account.

• a) Press Windows + X, Select Run.
• b) Type net user administrator /active:no
• c) Close the elevated command prompt.
• d) The built-in Administrator will now be available to select to sign into.

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

How to gain access to the WindowsApps folder?


To gain write access you need to do two things:

1. Change ownership (it should be "TrustedInstaller") to an admin account
2. Grant that account write access

I'm not sure if it works with every admin account or if you need the "real" admin account which is hidden. It can be revealed by entering the following command in elevated cmd: net user Administrator /active:yes (or active:no do hide it again).
