Windows 10: How do I get around a landline being the number used to text code to?

I want to update my security information but what is currently set is a landline phone number. The only option provided in updating security settings is for microsoft to text a code to the number provided. Again, it is a landline and cannot receive texts. How do I get around this? There doesn't seem to be other options.

Can the Microsoft Administration change a current landline number to a mobile, so text security can be used?

I am simply wondering if Microsoft Administrators can edit in a mobile number to replace a current landline number, so that text security can become workable?

I have a friend with a Bitlocker key being requested but signing in to her account on another device gives her security telephone number in her account as her landline, which cannot be used to verify and thus obtain the key.

So, is my initial question workable?

My friend has two other Microsoft accounts, but these are secured with her mobile number, which is fine.

I am wondering if she substitutes her landline phone unit with a model that accepts texts, that her predicament could be overcome?

What can you suggest or advise?

As a last resort I have offered to re-install Windows for her, hoping first to use software to back up her data. What do you think?

Texting with landline number. HELP PLEASE

I would like to text with my landline number from my computer., PLEASE HELP. We transitioning to comcast with voice mobility (VM). VM has text service which they say I can text clients with my cell phone. I do NOT want to text with my cell, but
rather be able to see a pop up on my screen and be able to respond immediately. Thanks

 

Text messages to a landline - account recovery

I’m seeing a recurring problem with account recovery on Microsoft IDs (I run a computer support company focused on home users). This is causing serious security problems and is entirely down to Microsoft making a foolish decision (which they can reverse).



Microsoft used to allow people to set up a recovery option of a landline phone number that used a robotic voice to read out the recovery code (Google, Apple, and many others still have this facility). Microsoft dropped the ability to make voice calls and now sends text messages instead.



Here’s the killer problem: lots of people can’t receive text messages on their landline phones because their provider does not offer that service.



Microsoft has created a dead-end. Those people were able to create and validate a recovery option with a landline phone, but now they can’t use it. In fact, they would be better off if they had never created it in the first place, as now Microsoft will not let them do anything with the account, even if they know the password.



I have yet another case I’m working on today. The client had his Hotmail account hacked (phishing hacking). I can’t change the password for him because the Microsoft site wants to send him a text message on his landline phone and he can’t receive text messages on his landline phone. The best I can do is request a replacement of the security information, which won’t happen for 30 days. The criminal has already used the access to compromise the client’s Facebook account as well, trying to stop it from spreading to other accounts, which is hard.



For 30 days the criminal has unrestricted access to the client’s emails and we can’t do anything about it.



Come on Microsoft. You have created this problem. You have to reinstate the ability to get the codes via a robotic voice. Maybe don’t allow new accounts to be set up this way, but at least honor the ones you previously validated.
