Windows 10: How do I get back just a simple search function on my taskbar without all the extra stuff?

Hi all,


I had to reinstall windows, and now the search button on my taskbar is filled with all this extra nonsense that I do not want or need. I've tried disabling Cortana and Bing Search through both Group Policies and RegEdit, but it won't go away. I find it messy, ugly and have a visceral dislike of it. All I want is just the nice, clean box that says "type here to search". Please help me.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro with the latest updates (not the insider preview though).

• When you say "taskbar search function", do you mean the Start menu search field?
  
• Are you getting any error messages upon accessing the taskbar search?

Meanwhile, to help resolve your concern, we suggest that you run the System file checker and DISM tool to fix issues with corrupted system files that may be causing the issue. To do this, follow these steps:

• Press Windows Key + X on your keyboard.
  
• Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
  
• Type or copy these commands followed by hitting Enter:
  
  sfc /scannow
  
  dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Taskbar search

Did not do anything to help. The search in File Explorer works fine. The first and last screen shot shows a search leading to no results but the file explorer finds them just fine. The last one shows my indexing options.

Cannot search 'my stuff' through taskbar

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

This issue might occur when, Search online and web
result toggle is On.

I would suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

1) Click in the search area on the taskbar.

2) Click on the Gear symbol on the left corner in the search menu.

3) Off the toggle Search online and web result.
