Windows 10: How do I get my camera to function correctly and take a photo for my account profile? It's...

Hi. I have a new Dell All in One computer operating Windows 11. I can change my account profile photo by going into Accounts>Your Info>Adjust your photo>Choose a file. However, if i choose the "Take a photo" option and open the camera, nothing happens when I click the button. My image does not upload. The camera screen opens fine, but I notice that a blue buffering circle keeps going round and round next to my name on the Account>Your info page where the photo should be. Any idea what is wrong? I can use the camera fine from the camera app. I have checked the camera drivers and win

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

When I take a photo of myself with my laptop camera, what directory is it placed in?

By default, your pictures should appear in your Pictures\Camera Roll folder. If they aren't there, follow these steps to figure out where they are being saved:

1. Take a picture with the camera app.
   
2. Click the thumbnail of the picture you just took at the bottom right of the app.
   
3. When the photo viewer opens, click the three dots (...) at the top right and select "File Info".
   

A panel will then appear and it will tell you the directory where your picture is located.

If you created your account picture by going to your account settings and then selecting "create your picture -> camera", then the picture will not have been stored in your camera roll. It will be located in %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\AccountPictures as mentioned by @kicken.

Thanks for replying spunk. That's the 'alphabetical' list I was referring to, none of these apps are in that 'All apps' list. Any more suggestions?
