Windows 10: How do I get my computer to recognize when I plug my controller into a USB port?

I recently got a new hard drive and installed windows 10 64bit. I play some video games on my PC and want to use my Xbox controller which I have used before on my old hard drive with no problems. Since getting the new hard drive and installing windows 10, I plug in my controller into a USB port and it does not even recognize that something has been plugged into the PC. The controller vibrates as if there is power being supplied to it, but it does not appear in device manager at all. How can I get my PC to recognize that I am plugging a device into the USB port? I have tried multiple ports and

1. Try plugging the USB device into a different USB port on your computer to see if it is recognized.



2. Check if the USB device is working properly by plugging it into another computer.



3. Make sure that the USB cable is not damaged or broken. Try using a different USB cable to see if that resolves the issue.



4. Check if the USB port is enabled in the BIOS settings of your computer. If it is disabled, enable it and restart your computer.



5. Update the USB drivers on your computer. You can do this by going to the Device Manager, right-clicking on the USB device with the yellow exclamation mark, and selecting "Update driver."

Windows 10 PC won't recognize PS4 controller plugged in via USB

When i plug in my PS4 controller to a PC, i get the infamous "yellow light of death" where the controller shows a brief yellow light before fading. I've tried looking this up but nothing seems to solve the problem. My controller worked yesterday evening
perfectly but today it suddenly stopped working. Also, neither my PC nor my laptop recognize the controller in "devices and drivers" -menu, nor do i get the windows sound when i plug in a device.

The methods i've tried for solving this so far have been:

• Plugging the controller to another PC (my laptop),
• uninstalling all USB and HID drivers and rebooting,
• pushing the reset button on the controller and rebooting the PC,
• trying multiple different usb slots on both of my PC and laptop,
• Pushing the PS button and options+share buttons to try to connect/recognize it via bluetooth,
• Trying multiple different usb cables.

I did manage to connect my controller via bluetooth to my laptop, but i had pre-installed a driver(scptoolkit) of my controller to that computer. The laptop still couldn't recognize the usb connection i had plugged in. The bluetooth connection worked flawlessly
on my laptop but i can't use that on my PC.

Any suggestions?

USB ports do not recognize anything plugged in.

I have an HP Slimline Desktop 410-010 running Windows 10. After the auto update ran the last time, I notice that the computer does not recognize any external hard drives plugged in to it. It is if there is none plugged in at all. When I pull up File Explorer
if doesn't list anything connected to USB ports. I first thought it was a bad external hard drive but tried all 3 that I have and it recognizes none of them.

Any help would be appreciated. Friends have advised me to reload the USB drivers but I haven't a clue how to do this. I am a 76 yr. old user who basically pays bills and surfs news articles so I guess I would qualify as computer illiterate.
