Windows 10: How do I get my inbuilt microphone to work again?

My inbuilt microphone and laptop speakers stopped working suddenly after an update. I deleted the audio drivers and installed a few previous versions and got the speakers to work properly againrespond to changing the volume, but could never get the inbuilt microphone to be even recognized by the system, let alone work. I went through all the system troubleshooting options, but the microphone doesn't appear at all in the system list to be able to troubleshoot it. When going through the troubleshooting issues, nothing appears for troubleshooting an inbuilt microphone, the possible solutions ha

My inbuilt Realtek microphone doesn't work. I've updated all the drivers and have checked that the microphone is not mute but it still wont work

A week ago I upgrade my Toshiba L40T-B833 laptop(windows 8.1) to Windows 10. After the upgrade inbuilt microphone isn't working. It is listed under the Recording options of the sound panel as being enabled but it does not seem to be picking up any sound
at all. I have followed all the advice I can find online but it has not solved the problem and whilst people back home can see me, they can not hear me.

Yes there is usually an inbuilt microphone driver.

Try these steps to run the troubleshooter:
